I am Ildikó Lázárné Vámosi, a loving chow-chow owner and breeder.
My first encounter with this wonderful breed dates back to the early 1990s. Seeing and loving it was, so to speak, a matter of a moment. The first encounter that left a deep impression on me was with a beautiful red chow-chow, which inspired me to get to know the breed better.
I began an intense search, trying to learn all available information about these beautiful dogs. From breed descriptions found in various dog magazines, dog breed encyclopedias, and correspondence with breeders, I managed to obtain a lot of important information.
I was very attracted to the breed and as a result of several family discussions, we decided that if we were to have a dog in the future, it would be a chow-chow. We continued to keep in touch with kennels, and we reserved a puppy from one of them.
The big day when we welcomed a sweet red chow female as a member of our family arrived in February 1994.
Life with a chow-chow is truly interesting, sometimes humorous, kind, and very promising—especially for us then, since we had never had a dog before. After the period of getting to know each other and getting used to one another, a true friendship developed between us!
In the following 1-2 years, we participated as spectators in some dog shows, where we saw many beautiful chows and met their breeders. Moving forward, we entered our now grown red female in a nearby dog show, where she won the title in her class. This was a real surprise and great joy for us!
By this time, we had become so passionate about the breed that we decided we wanted to breed them. To establish this, in the summer of 1996, we specifically purchased our first two red puppies with breeding intentions. At the end of the year, the first cream-colored puppy arrived in our family who immediately captured my heart. She was very beautiful and very special for us, as at that time there were only a few cream chows in Hungary. The gorgeous cream baby conquered my heart in that moment, and for me, since then the cream color has been the "great love" along with the fiery red color.
We count the establishment of the “Broken Hill” chow-chow kennel from December 1996, when our first puppies were born and we officially registered our kennel name with the Hungarian Dog Breeders' Association.
From 1997 onward, we participated with our dogs in numerous CAC and CACIB shows, some breed clubs, and European and World dog shows both domestically and abroad, from which we often returned with great results. Several chows originating from multiple kennels, living both within the country and beyond our borders, hold Champion titles.
- Gold Wreathed Master Breeder Certificate
- Silver Wreathed Master Breeder Certificate
- Bronze Wreathed Master Breeder Certificate
Based on the show results of the dogs born in my kennel, I received the Bronze Wreathed Master Breeder title from the Hungarian National Association of Dog Breeders in 2005, the Silver Wreathed Master Breeder title in 2008, and the Gold Wreathed Master Breeder title in 2014.
In my kennel, I breed cream-colored and red chows. When selecting breeding dogs, I strive to ensure they conform as much as possible to the requirements set by the standard. Along with the standard, I consider health the primary aspect in breeding.
In my breeding program, one or two litters are born each year according to a planned schedule.
Every litter, every puppy's birth is a great commitment and responsible task for the breeder, which I try to solve in the best way from my heart. You can get insight into all this if you read my article titled „The breeder”.
