Our textual and visual series presenting the world of exhibitions first offers an insight into one of Russia's largest dog shows, the colorful world of Eurasia.
The Eurasia show is one of Russia's main cynological events, held every year in the first month of spring, March, in the capital, Moscow. This is a two-day double CACIB show, where similar titles can be won as at the prominent Hungarian CACIB exhibitions held annually.
At the CACIB exhibition on the first day of Eurasia, dogs awarded the JCAC title (both male and female), as well as dogs achieving the CACIB title qualify for the 2015 Crufts Dog Show.
Young dogs (both male and female) who earn the JCAC title on both days automatically receive the title of “Russian Junior Champion.”
Adult dogs (both male and female) who achieve the CAC title on both days automatically receive the title of “Russian Champion.”
In every breed, the best male and best female automatically receive the title of “Eurasia Champion.”
The Eurasia show is a huge experience for both exhibitors and visiting guests, spectators alike. This year, there was also a participant from our small homeland. Yulia Rakács, a pug breeder and owner of the LEKYUR’S kennel, participated as a spectator at the Eurasia dog show. We asked her to tell us and our readers about this colorful and interesting dog exhibition.
Ildikó: Welcome, Yulia!
Could you please tell us and our readers about the Eurasia Show? What did you see and experience? I would also be interested in the history of the Dog Show, the many exciting and colorful programs showcased at the exhibition, essentially all interesting information related to the exhibition.
Yulia: Greetings to the Portal readers and to you as well!
I am very happy to talk about the Eurasia international dog show. I also experienced it as a great event; I love this exhibition, perhaps also because I have some connection to the country, as I lived here as a child and it is always a great experience to revisit my homeland. I can say that I have many dog-loving friends of Russian origin, both within breeds and beyond, whom I also met at the exhibition.
Eurasia is Russia's largest exhibition, where not only many beautifully presented dogs can be admired, but we can also enjoy numerous fascinating and colorful programs, and dog fashion, dog sports, and charity also come to the forefront.
Eurasia is a two-day double CACIB International exhibition held annually. The organizer of the exhibition is the Russian Kynological Federation, abbreviated as RKF, which is the Russian dog breeding organization. Regarding its history, the first Eurasia Dog Show was held in 1991. Since 1991 the exhibition has continuously expanded with new, colorful, and interesting programs, and today it is Russia's largest dog show, highly respected among the world's dog breeders and dog lovers as well.
A multitude of trophies and rosettes
RKF’s dream and desire for the future is that the Eurasia show becomes the world’s largest exhibition on earth, therefore starting from 2005 the show was moved to a more modern and larger capacity exhibition center. From this year onward, the Eurasia show is held in Moscow at the “Crocus Expo” International Exhibition Center. Crocus Expo is easily accessible by any means of transport, close to the metro and bus station as well.

In 2014, the FCI, the International Cynological Federation, participated for the first time at the Eurasia exhibition with its own booth. Interested people could take part in a quiz and win a special gift, precisely the FCI mascot dog Cobby and other unique gifts as well.

There was all-day work in the exhibition rings with the participation of 70 invited international conformation judges – including presidents of various national cynological organizations – who came from 20 different countries, such as France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Austria, Israel, Colombia, USA, Russia, as well as several from Hungary, including Dr. Tamás Jakkel.

Among the judges, leading personalities of the FCI were also present; on the second day, the FCI President, Rafael de Santiago, selected the BIS dog of the exhibition.
Happy winners
The number of entries received for the exhibition reached 13,000 from 255 different dog breeds. On a daily basis, the three international breeds with the highest numbers were the Pomeranian dwarfs with 172 entries, the Labrador Retrievers with 157 entries, and the Siberian Huskies with 155 entries. Other breeds with high entry numbers were: Golden Retrievers 99, Rhodesian Ridgebacks 97, Papillons 93, American Cocker Spaniels 87, Russian Black Terriers 86, German Shepherd Dogs and Pugs with 85 entries each. There were also 62 Bordeaux Dogs, more than one hundred Poodles, 145 Chihuahuas, nearly 200 Schnauzers including all three sizes, and about 300 Dachshunds.
The Eurasia show is an incredible spectacle for both exhibitors and guests, where one can admire the most unusual and rarely seen dog breeds. Numerous competitions and presentations take place in the main ring — repeated on both days and followed by the audience through a large screen — such as agility demonstrations and championships, where many participants contribute to showcasing the dogs’ special skills. The event was visited by 24,000 attendees over the two days.
Among the competitions related to the exhibition was the World Championship Show selection, and on both days a contest was held for dog breeds not recognized by the FCI, where the audience could admire rare breeds such as the American Hairless Terrier and the Harlequin Poodle, with at least 10 individuals parading in the ring.

Participants, exhibitors, and guests can take part in various colorful and interesting programs, such as the spectacular Dog Fashion show, a dog fashion show that has become a tradition year after year. Inviting famous Russian designers to the jury has become a tradition, as well as dogs parading in costumes and the selection of the best costumed dog. The colorful and breathtaking procession of costumed dogs always evokes overwhelming emotions from the audience. The judge of the 2014 costume contest for dogs was one of the most famous Russian designers, Elena Suprun, and the most extravagant dictator of Russian fashion design, the fashion designer Violetta Litvinova.

Besides this, another interesting and spectacular program is Dog Dancing, an introduction to dog dances. The dog must demonstrate its understanding and knowledge of the trained commands. Nevertheless, it integrates its obedience skills within a choreographed routine, developed by the handler to a selected piece of music. The training involves teaching the dog a series of different steps and poses.
The Russian Kennel Club, RKF, is not only the organizer of the exhibition itself but also of a charity event held within the exhibition titled “A Home for Every Dog.” The goal of the charity is to help animals living in shelters, as well as assist homeless dogs in finding their families with the help of a loving film star, actor, or cinema star. The celebrities parade together with the dogs, introducing their characteristics.
On the first day, the BIS dog was a French Bulldog, while on the second day a German Miniature Spitz.
I have also brought interesting photos from the exhibition that faithfully reflect the atmosphere of the Eurasia show, including several special photos, such as this one when professional photographers are being photographed.

Ildikó: Judging by your experience report, Eurasia must have been a grand and enjoyable exhibition for you, and now, having told us about it, it will be the same for us and the Portal readers as well.
Thank you very much, Yulia, for the photos (we will use them in the article) and for this particularly exciting report on the Eurasia exhibition.
