The World Dog Show hosting rights for the year 2015 were awarded to the Italian Kennel Club. Between June 11 and 14, 2015, the cream of the dog world will visit Milan for a grand World Dog Exhibition.
The Italian Kennel Club, abbreviated ENCI (Ente Nazionale della Cinofilia Italiana), was founded by the names of a few "gentlemen" who in 1882 decided to create a dog association to improve the quality of dog breeding in Italy. Thus, the Italian Kennel Club was founded with 31 members. The pedigree database started in 1875, with the first registered dog being an Italian pointer. By 1904, the number of registered dogs already exceeded one thousand. In these years, the first dog shows were held in Milan and Turin, where about 400 dogs were exhibited. At this time, the Kennel Club also created an official Magazine.
In 1922 the members decided to request official state recognition for the Kennel Club. Meanwhile, membership was steadily increasing. Finally, in 1940, the Club received state recognition from the Ministry of Agriculture. In the meantime, the number of registered dogs reached eight thousand, then began to grow rapidly. By 1960, the number of registered dogs had already reached fourteen thousand. In 1970, at the FCI International Congress held in Budapest, it was established that a common mark must be applied on the certificates of different nations to clarify that FCI member countries are entitled to display this mark on their dogs' pedigrees.
The Italian Kennel Club's pedigree book currently contains about 160,000 registered dogs. There are 2,000 registered dog breeders and 100,000 members registered. The Kennel Club operates 147 different Organizations and 68 breed clubs throughout Italy. Until 2010, the organization worked with 500 international conformation judges, then in the same year, 50 individuals received international conformation judge licenses after completing courses and examinations. ENCI publishes the “I nostri Cani” dog magazine monthly in 100,000 copies, and it is received by all its affiliated dog Organizations as well. ENCI supports dog Organizations across the country with various trainings, such as courses for hunting dogs, working and police dogs, and herding dogs. Herding dogs are indispensable assistants to sheep and goat shepherds. Through the training of police dogs, they assist police Organizations; several breeds successfully work in maintaining public order and drug detection. The Italian Kennel Club currently continuously takes care of and preserves the genes of 14 indigenous breeds.
The Italian Kennel Club hosted the dog world for the first time at the World Dog Show in 2000, with the then World Exhibition also held in Milan. In 2015, this large world event will take place for the second time in Milan.

Four of the most significant Italian pop music publishing companies are based in Milan: Eclectic Circus, BMG Ricordi, Vox Pop, and Mescal. Alongside numerous pop music concerts and events, the city’s reputation is enhanced by the Milan Jazz Festival, which is well-known not only in Italy but worldwide among jazz performers.
