Organized by the Karcag Independent Legal Entity Organization of the Hungarian National Association of Dog Breeders, we can participate in 2 x CAC dog shows on September 28, 2019, in Karcag. The venue for the CAC dog shows is Liget Street located in the Zuglóger area in the downtown of Karcag.
The organizing Association, the Karcag Independent Legal Entity Organization of the Hungarian National Association of Dog Breeders
The best operating dog breeding Organization in the Kunság region, the Karcag Independent Legal Entity Organization was founded in 1971. In the years following its establishment, its membership steadily expanded, and the Organization developed year by year. Soon, it became timely to establish a dog school with knowledgeable dog trainers and instructors. The dog school has been operating successfully for many years and is now considered the best equipped school in the region.
At the end of 2008, the Association was restructured with a rejuvenated, new board and began working with a new spirit and youthful momentum. Among the Organization’s goals are the involvement of the future dog-loving generation in dog programs from childhood, promoting dog ownership among young people, familiarizing them with the colorful world of dogs and exhibitions, breeding, passing on the knowledge they possess, thus nurturing the future dog-loving generation.
In 2010, the Organization held a successful CAC dog show and, a few weeks later, a Local Dog show that provided an opportunity for dog lovers to also showcase purebred dogs without pedigrees and mixed breeds. This Local Dog show exhibition is held every summer under the Organization’s leadership, enriched by dog presentations, and purebred dogs without pedigrees as well as mixed breeds are also judged.
Thanks to the successful 2010 CAC dog show, the Organization was able to host a CAC exhibition in 2012, 2014, and 2017 as well. Last year, it regained the right to organize a national dog show again this year after a 2-year break. We wish them much success with this!

Introducing the dog show city, Karcag
The double CAC dog show city Karcag, which currently has 23,000 residents and is considered the capital of Nagykunság. Due to its location, cultural, commercial, health, educational, and economic roles, it has become the center of the region. Karcag is a typical Great Plain market town, which is reflected in its settlement form, abundance of institutions, and external networks.
Its historical past dates back to the 13th century Mongol invasion, when the settled Cumans founded the town. After settling in Hungary, the Cumans converted to Christianity and integrated into Hungarian society, but as a privileged people, they served kings with arms. Over time they became Hungarian, but some elements of their ancient language and culture still survive today.
Karcag's vast territory was formed during the Turkish occupation by absorbing the remaining population and lands of the destroyed small villages. This is why the area of Karcag is called Hatkunság, since only six settlements were revived in the 18th century. Their lifestyle was characterized by grazing animal husbandry on the plains and dispersed farming. Karcag’s market town status was maintained for centuries by this mode of production.
Looking back at the history of the Cumans, we can see a kind of primal strength and cohesion that helped the Cuman ancestors both in stormy and peaceful times. This cohesion lasts to this day and helps the descendants of the Cumans preserve their traditions. The former customs are revived at the Kun World Meeting held every three years, including the election of the Cuman Captain within it.
Karcag is the southern gateway to the Hortobágy National Park. The sight of the Great Plain, the secretive mounds of the Cumans, the windmill, and the dry-standing five-arched Zádor Bridge offer a pleasant excursion, while the thermal bath and swimming pool in Karcag provide relaxation and healing for visitors interested in Karcag.
Additional nature reserves can be found around the city, such as the Kecskeri plain, whose untouched flora and fauna offer a true experience for visiting tourists, as well as the Kun mounds found in Nagykunság, which recall the memory of the Cumans' presence here. The huge territory still features farms and well-type wells that evoke bygone eras.
The city of Karcag plays a central role in the life of Nagykunság, satisfying the health, educational, and commercial needs of the large local population and residents of surrounding settlements, thanks to its various institutional networks.
The memory of the Cuman ancestors is recalled by the Cuman Memorial Site and the Nagykun Millennium Monument. One of the most interesting stops on the thematic tour called “In the Footsteps of the Jászkun Captains” is the Nagykun Visitor Center and its attraction spaces. The “Heritage of the Cumans” permanent exhibition at the István Györffy Nagykun Museum presents the centuries-old history and lifestyle of the Cumans. The protected stone mill, the milling history exhibition, and the historic windmill are considered curiosities. The Medical History and Pharmacy Exhibition houses an original pharmacy setup over a hundred years old, along with a collection showcasing the life of Gábor Kátai, a pharmacist from Karcag.
Karcag is also significant for its artistic life, especially its pottery. The Kossuth Prize-winning Sándor Kántor lived and created here, and today several workshops still operate the potter’s wheel. Karcag is also home to Sándor Györfi, Munkácsy Prize-winning sculptor, whose bronze public sculptures adorn many towns. The Karcag Symphony Orchestra, Salon Orchestra, City Mixed Choir, and String Chamber Orchestra also contribute to a vibrant musical life.
Visitors can take part in numerous Karcag-specific events such as the nationally renowned Karcag Mutton Cooking Contest, the Nagykunság Cultural Days series linked to the August 20 celebrations, as well as the two-day Karcag Equestrian Days event, which honors horse-riding traditions.
Come and visit as well, the organizers await you with love!
