Organized and hosted by the Eastern Hungary Dog Breeders Association, on April 23, 2016 and 24 we can participate in a 2 x CACIB international dog show of all breeds in Debrecen. Following the traditions of recent years, the venue this year is again the area of the University of Debrecen Agricultural Science Center.
The Eastern Hungary Dog Breeders Association was established in the 1960s, then called the MEOE Debrecen Organization. Specifically, in 1967 the hunting, herding, guard-protection, and work sections were created, and then within the Association these trainings along with the training of guide dogs also began. In 1990, the Association gained independent legal status, and nowadays it is recognized as the largest Association by membership. Besides organizing the two major shows (2 x CACIB and the night CACIB), the Association also holds two to three work tests and breeding tests annually, and continuous training takes place in the guard-protection, hunting, and agility sections.
The CACIB international dog shows organized by the Eastern Hungary Dog Breeders Association have a long tradition. Since the 2000s, the Association has held this large-scale, two-day dog show almost every year, enchanting exhibitors with its pleasant atmosphere (together with the night CACIB dog show, which is even more magical under the mysterious lighting).
As an appetizer, our readers can watch a video recording made by Ebugatta TV at one of the international dog shows from recent years:

The venue of the 2 x CACIB international dog show is Debrecen, which is the second largest and most populous city in Hungary, and also the cultural, economic, tourism, and transportation center of Eastern Hungary. Today, it is considered one of the most dynamically developing cities in our country.
The city of Debrecen is often referred to as the Calvinist Rome or a civic city, which gained market town status in the 1300s, then received royal city rank in the 1600s, and has already served as the country’s capital twice. Its history has been intertwined with the Reformation for centuries, as is evidenced by many historical memorials such as Kossuth Square, the Memorial Park, and the Nagyerdő Sculpture Park.
Among its sights, the city’s symbol stands out: the neo-classical style Great Reformed Church from the 1800s, which is the largest Reformed church in the country and houses Kossuth Lajos’ armchair as a relic. The building is located in the heart of the city, at Kossuth Square, behind which stands the Reformed College, operating since the 1500s, whose prestige was founded by its famous teachers and students. The College’s great library, with a half-million volume collection—including rare books—is recorded as the largest collection of the Hungarian Reformed Church.
Next to the College is the neo-baroque style building of the Déri Museum. In its most famous section, the Munkácsy Hall, two works of Mihály Munkácsy’s world-famous Christ trilogy can be seen.
Another landmark of the city center is the prestigious Aranybika Hotel, which is the oldest still operating hotel in the country; the Main Square, where the city’s coat of arms made of glass mosaics is embedded in decorative paving in the center; and the City Hall building in classical style, which is among the most beautiful.
From the city’s rich cultural offerings, the spectacular and wonderful Flower Carnival on August 20th, the Jazz Days, the Poetry Festival, and the Summer University events stand out.
The city’s most popular tourist event is the unique Flower Carnival in Europe. For the spectacle related to the coronation of the state founder Saint Stephen and the celebration of the new bread, hundreds of thousands come to the city. The main event of the week-long series, the Flower Carnival, becomes more spectacular every year, with participants able to see fairy-tale beautiful floral compositions, the majestic scents of which are not negligible. In addition, quality entertaining programs, concerts, dance performances, children’s programs, and as the highlight of the day, fireworks await the families and guests attending the Flower Carnival.
For families, a real relaxation can be the Zoo, which has been welcoming visitors since 1958. During the nearly 60 years that have passed, the area of the Zoo has continuously increased, and it can now be said that a park meeting EU standards has been created, where families and guests can see about 1500 specimens of 165 species from 5 continents.
The conditions provided here give the species living in it significantly greater welfare and better well-being than before. The area, along with its 341 plant species, has been under nature conservation protection since 1994.
Among the natural sights of Debrecen, the Great Forest stands out, which since 1939 has been Hungary's first nature reserve, expanded with a zoo, amusement park, and botanical garden, whose original flora is identical to that of the Great Forest. In the arboretum, among about 8000 plant species, you can also find plenty of tropical rarities, and the European-famous cactus collection representing 2000 species and 10,000 plants is also located here.
The actual venue of the dog shows, the area of the University of Debrecen's Agricultural Science Center, is also located in the Great Forest, where every visitor, guest, and exhibitor with their dogs is warmly welcomed, and during the spring season, the Association of East Hungarian Dog Breeders hosts two colorful and atmospheric dog shows.
