The Hód Dog Dog-Friendly Association announces 2 x CACIB International dog shows in the city of Hódmezővásárhely on August 29 and 30, 2015. As the actual venue of the exhibition, as always traditionally, this year the association again chose the Hód-Mezőgazda Zrt. Exhibition Center.
The leadership of the Hód Dog Dog-Friendly Association consists of breeders and working dog handlers, and together they work to introduce people to the concept of cultured dog keeping. The organization's dog school is one of the best resources for this, where dog-loving families, people, and children meet and learn together with their dogs.
The Hód Dog Center dog school was founded in 2006, then with only a few dog-loving members, but it didn’t take long to become the largest dog school in the city. Since then, the dog school has been welcoming dogs and owners eager to learn with unwavering enthusiasm. At the dog school, people can learn the proper treatment of dogs, learn how to make it easier to accept dogs, for example, in a residential community. In this, the dog school assists dog owners with behavioral, socialization, and obedience training. In addition, there is protection and guard dog training, preparation for work exams and shows, and the popular dog sport agility, which attracts many enthusiasts. As a secondary goal, the school also deals with training working dogs. The sessions are available in groups and individually, and from puppy age onwards, everyone interested is welcome to their sessions on Saturday afternoons.
The Hód Dog Dog-Friendly Association, experienced in organizing exhibitions, has held dog shows almost every two years since crossing into the 2000s. Looking back over the past 5 years, in 2010 they received the right from the parent association to organize a CAC exhibition, and in 2011 they could already hold a double CACIB exhibition, which repeated again two years later. This year, the organization has again been given the opportunity to hold the 2 x CACIB international dog show.

The city of the 2 x CACIB international dog show is Hódmezővásárhely, which is one of the most important economic and cultural centers of the Great Plain and Hungary’s second largest city by area.
The area has been inhabited since prehistoric times. The first written records preserve the history of the settlements Hód and Vásárhely from the early 13th century. In the 15th century, these two settlements merged to form Hódmezővásárhely, which primarily functioned as a market town. The main livelihood of the population was agriculture, markets, and livestock fairs. This city also suffered under Turkish rule; it was first destroyed in the 1550s, then again at the end of the 1600s. The destroyed city was rebuilt in 1700. It took decades to resettle the population of the city. During the 1848-49 battles, the city’s youths took part in the fights in the southern region. Starting from the 1870s, the city truly began to develop and by 1890 it was already the fourth most populous city in the country. After World War I, the city was first under French and then Romanian occupation, during which it suffered great damage. Until World War II, the city remained agricultural in character, but afterward, industry also began to play an increasingly significant role. From the end of the 19th century, the artistic life in the city was notable; the Great Plain landscape, the proximity of the Tisza River, and the tranquility and beauty of the steppe attracted artists. Building on the traditions of folk art, a vibrant cultural life developed in the city from the early 20th century. Since the regime change, Hódmezővásárhely’s life has been characterized by steady development. In 1997, Hódmezővásárhely’s work was recognized with the Europe Prize for infrastructural developments and the expansion of the social network. In 2009, Hódmezővásárhely was named Town of the Year and then received the Hungarian Heritage Award in 2010.
The city is continuously developing, and visitors can discover the countless values of this historic market town, the downtown surrounded by Art Nouveau buildings, experience the city’s thermal bath, the modern sports swimming pool, as well as the picturesque environment of the Tisza backwater. In the city center and the old quarters that start from here, many historic buildings, villas, and folk brick buildings can be found. The city is rich in statues and outdoor fine art works, proving that we are visiting a Great Plain artist city. The city’s main square, Kossuth Square, is entirely landscaped and thus a favorite resting place for the locals.
Among the built heritage of Hódmezővásárhely, the buildings constructed under the rule of the Károlyi family stand out, such as the Reformed Old Church, the Alföld Gallery’s classical building, the city’s oldest built heritage, the Romanesque and Gothic style Árpád-era Csomorkány Church Ruin, from the 13th-14th centuries. Another notable building is the Town Hall’s eclectic style building, as well as one of the largest pillar-free ballrooms in the Great Plain, the Black Eagle Event Hall, which hosts balls and cultural events, the Greek Orthodox Church, the János Tornyai Museum, which offers many temporary exhibitions. On the city’s main street, in the middle of a small park stands the Downtown Roman Catholic Church, whose central and two side naves were built based on the plans of Miklós Ybl in the mid-1800s. As can be read, the city abounds in religious buildings; the largest Baroque Reformed church of the Great Plain, the New Church is also located here, as well as the eclectic building of the Israelite synagogue, the Synagogue, whose distinct Secessionist decoration was authentically renovated by the city for the 60th anniversary of the Holocaust. In Saint Stephen Square stands the Equestrian Statue of Saint Stephen, behind it the Saint Stephen Roman Catholic Church built in 1936.
In the city’s Folk House, visitors can learn about the history of Vásárhely embroidery and ceramics. The Cellar Museum of Peasant Tools serves as a private collection presenting peasant life. The renovated Papi Windmill and Miller’s House also increasingly provides venues for various programs.
The bathing life in Vásárhely has a tradition of more than half a century. Next to the beach, the modern City Sports Swimming Pool, suitable for holding international sports competitions, continuously welcomes those eager to practice sports.
Nature lovers will also find entertainment here, the Kardoskút White Lake is a natural value of Hódmezővásárhely. In part of the Kardoskút White Lake, the Körös-Maros National Park Directorate's Hungarian Grey Cattle, Racka and Gypsy sheep stock can be found. These animal breeds are protected for their indigenous status, carrying invaluable values, and are registered as valuable gene reserves. The area is rich in cultural-historical values. Near the protected area, in the Pusztaközpont, the Kardoskút museum can be found. The exhibition summarizes and presents the history and natural values of the area. The changes of the landscape, its flora and fauna can be followed with old maps, drawings, and photos illustrating them. Informative boards help orientation within the protected area.
The dog show will also be held this year at the Hód-Mezőgazda Zrt. Exhibition Center, where all visitors, guests, and exhibitors with their dogs are warmly welcomed to the 2 x CACIB international dog show by the Hód Dog Dog-Friendly Association!
