The MEOE Pécs Independent Legal Association is organizing a 2 x CACIB international dog show in one of Europe’s cultural capitals, Pécs, on March 12 and 13, 2016. The International dog shows will be hosted at the Expo Center Pécs Multifunctional Exhibition and Event Center.
The Pécs Independent Legal Association has a long tradition in organizing exhibitions, as it has been organizing dog shows since the 1970s, including international shows for the past 17 years, which take place every 2 years.
The well-functioning Association was founded in 1947 and operated as a former MEOE member association until 2012, then from the following year as an Independent Legal Association. In the first two decades after its foundation, the Board focused on organizing canine activities, and the following decades brought professional and financial growth for them. The flourishing canine life also brought an active club life into the Association, which continues to operate prominently to this day.
The Association also operates a well-functioning dog school, offering obedience, discipline, and protection training sessions for dog owners. The sessions are supervised by certified master trainers, where a decisive aspect is the good relationship and harmony between the owner and the dog. The management of the MEOE Pécs Independent Legal Organization and the master dog trainers warmly welcome dogs and their owners eager to learn to the various courses of the dog school.

The first part of the video recording of the 2004 Pécs CACIB exhibition by Ebugatta Television is available to watch:
Pécs, the city of international dog shows, is described by our poet Sándor Weöres: “Pécs is the southern city of the country/sometimes warm even in winter/At the bend of Jakab Hill and Tettye/snowdrops bloom in January.”
This Mediterranean atmosphere city has about 2000 years of history. In Pécs, you can find side by side the values of the Roman era, the Middle Ages, the Turkish occupation era, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Christian and Muslim buildings, residential houses, churches, prayer houses, and mosques.
The heritage of the past dates back all the way to the Neolithic era. The area has always offered good living conditions for the groups that settled here. This is evidenced by the archaeological finds uncovered. The archaeological research of the city and cemetery of Sopianae (the Roman-era Pécs) has been ongoing for several hundred years. Based on the findings, the outline of the city and the cemetery area located to the north of it on the slopes of the Mecsek Mountains has been established.
The community of the city of Sopianae built a significant number of tomb structures (chapels, tomb chambers, built graves) in the 4th century. The monuments are unparalleled works both architecturally and artistically, and since 2000 they have been part of the UNESCO World Heritage.
After the migration period, around 1009, Saint Stephen founded a bishopric in Pécs. Thanks to the economic and cultural greatness of the settlement, in 1367, during the reign of King Louis the Great, Pope Urban signed the bull founding the university – thus Pécs became the seat of the first university in Hungary.
During the Turkish rule, it truly turned into an eastern city, with numerous mosques and baths built over more than 140 years, which is also reflected in the following quote by Mihály Babits: “Far away, far away stretches the plain, where the captain calls his line/ far away the important four towers, minaret and arch/ far away the smoking Mecsek renews its green roof/ at least offering the eye fresh garlands.”
The city of Pécs is attractive to visitors and tourists because of its historical and cultural values, and its unique intellectual life. The city’s best-known architectural and cultural heritage is the Early Christian Burial Chambers of Pécs.
Among the religious monuments, the Synagogue holds a worthy place. A special experience is a trip to the Porcelain Manufactory, where the legendary Zsolnay legacy can be admired up close. In the exhibition rooms of the Zsolnay Ceramic Collection, the development of architectural ceramics can be tracked.
The city is known throughout Europe for its rich artistic life, festivals, and artists. All year round, a multitude of cultural programs awaits entertainment-seeking guests in Pécs. The Pécs Spring Festival, Rockmaraton, Heritage Festival, Pécs Dance Marathon, and Pécs Open-air Plays are annual festivals attracting many visitors. In 2005, among numerous cities in the European Union, Pécs was chosen (alongside Istanbul and Essen) as the European Capital of Culture for the year 2010.
Among Pécs’ natural sights, the Pécs Zoo and Aquarium-Terrarium, located on the picturesque side of the Mecsek Mountains, stands out.
In the classical-style zoo, nearly 100 animal species from five continents live in about 400 individuals. In nearly 30 terrariums and aquariums of the medieval cellar labyrinth of Pécs, visitors can admire more than 100 animal species of 500-600 individuals.
The International Dog Shows are traditionally held at the Expo Center Pécs Multifunctional Exhibition and Event Center. The Expo Center has 5 halls and rooms of different sizes, hosting numerous exhibitions and fairs every year, plus it has more than 10,000 m2 of outdoor area. Many exhibitions, fairs, conferences, congresses, festivals, concerts, theatrical performances, balls, sports events, and cultural programs are held in the Expo Center annually. Among their exhibitions, noteworthy are the Viticulture, Medical, Monument Protection, and Environmental exhibitions, which attract many visitors. The air-conditioned and carpeted halls of the Expo Center Exhibition and Event Center welcome exhibitors and their dogs on both days of the event.
All interested parties, guests, and exhibitors with their dogs are warmly welcomed by the MEOE Pécs Independent Association to Hungary’s Cultural Capital, Pécs, for the 2 x CACIB international dog show!
