Thanks to the MEOE Székesfehérvár Independent Organization, we can participate in 2 x CACIB international dog shows on June 29 and 30, 2019. The venue for the 2 x CACIB international dog show this year is again located on the shore of Lake Velence.

Thanks to the independent organization of MEOE Székesfehérvár, we can participate in 2 x CACIB international dog shows on June 29 and 30, 2019. The venue for the 2 x CACIB international dog shows this year is again the free beach area in Agárd, located on the shore of Lake Velence.

The organizing Association, the independent organization of MEOE Székesfehérvár

The leadership of the independent organization of MEOE Székesfehérvár consists of breeders and working dog handlers, and they also work together to involve the younger generation in dog activities from childhood, to introduce children to responsible animal love and animal care. The Organization's dog school is one of the best sources for this, where dog-loving families, people, and children meet and learn together with their dogs. The Dog School helps dog owners with behavioral and socialization as well as obedience training, teaching the pupils to handle dogs with love and patience. Additionally, there are guard-protection trainings, preparation for working exams and shows, and the popular dog sport agility, which attracts many enthusiasts. The sessions can be taken both in groups and individually.

The independent organization of MEOE Székesfehérvár, after crossing the year 2000, has almost every year earned the right to organize dog shows; it held CAC shows in 2008, 2010, and 2016, while in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2015 it was able to arrange 2 x CACIB international shows. In 2013 and 2014 it doubled, as one month after the 2 x CACIB shows held at the Bregyó közi Camping area in Székesfehérvár, the Organization also organized and managed the CAC national dog show at Lake Velence. This year, the Organization received again the opportunity to hold the 2 x CAC national dog show. We wish them good work, many entered and exhibited dogs, countless visitors, wonderful weather, and a successful show!

Introducing the city of the dog show, Székesfehérvár

The venue of the 2 x CACIB international dog show is Agárd, which is the oldest and perhaps the most famous resort of Lake Velence, a garden town atmosphere resort and leisure center. Agárd is a district of the city of Gárdony, home to the famous Pop Strand, the Gárdonyi Géza Memorial House, and the Gárdonyi Log Castle.

The first written record of Agárd dates back to 1193, when Béla III granted a part of it to the convent of the White Castle Crusader Knights (monastic settlement). Courtiers lived on the royal part, which Béla IV donated to the chapter of Csút in 1264. In the following centuries, it had many owners, including the Nádasdy family from the early 1850s to 1930. The holiday area began to develop with parceling by the Nádasdy family, with a planned, regular street network. At a county meeting held in 1930, a decision was made regarding the development of bathing life along the entire southern shore of the lake. Agárd's conditions were considered more favorable for the construction of a villa colony, while Gárdony was more suitable for shops and workshops. As a result, Agárd rapidly developed in the 1930s. 1,500 parceled holiday plots were sold, called the Nádasdy Bathing and Recreation Colony. From the 1930s until the end of World War II, more than 700 holiday homes were built in Agárd, but development stalled after the war and only picked up again in the 1960s. By the 1970s, Agárd had become one of Hungary's best-known tourist destinations.

Agárd’s main attraction – besides the beaches – is its medicinal thermal water. In the Bika Valley, at the southern border of Agárd, a 50°C thermal water source was discovered, and a thermal bath was built in 1984, which was developed into a medical center in 2004.

Near the Bath in Agárd stands the famous Agárdi Pálinka Distillery, where spirits distilled from the region’s flavorful fruits are produced. The Velence Lake Wine Route’s cellars in Agárd offer characteristic wines to visitors.

The program offering is enriched with a colorful concert palette by the more than 30 years old Agárdi Pop Strand, known for its light music events, which is one of the best-known summer meeting places for domestic pop and rock bands. It is the countryside’s outdoor stage with the longest history and human-scale size, a beautiful, waterfront, grassy natural environment with a 2.2 meter high giant stage where everyone sees everything! The experience at Agárd is further enhanced by the Dance Beach’s free-entry retro parties. Today, the Agárdi Pop Strand welcomes its youthful lifestyle guests not only in summer but also on winter weekends. The Agárdi Pop Strand Ice Rink is currently Hungary’s largest skating and sliding rink.

The settlement’s famous native is Géza Gárdonyi. He adopted his surname in honor of his birthplace, where he spent his childhood. The building that has housed the memorial house since 1988 is also Géza Gárdonyi’s birthplace. In the rooms opening into each other, visitors can get acquainted with documents, photographs, and memorabilia of the writer’s life. The exhibition presents the main milestones of Géza Gárdonyi’s life and the outstanding values of his literary work. Besides his diary and the finest editions of his works, some original personal belongings can also be viewed in the display cases. Visitors can learn about his creative method, literary career, and glimpse into his special secret writing. The building also features a kitchen furnished with period tools and furniture. The Géza Gárdonyi Birthplace and the descriptions on the walls bring Gárdonyi’s life and work closer to visitors.

Next to the Géza Gárdonyi Memorial House is the Velence Lake Gallery. This new art center functions as a cultural facility that preserves and creates values: as a creative and exhibition space.

The Gárdony Log Castle, a miniature replica of the Eger Castle, was built beside Géza Gárdonyi’s birthplace. The facility modeled after the Eger Castle welcomes guests seeking adventure with open gates and colorful programs. The Log Castle can contribute to preserving the memory of heroic resistance, similarly to Géza Gárdonyi’s novel, The Stars of Eger.

Wandering in the castle, visitors get closer to the era, to the people of the past; the events of the novel become more vivid after the adventures in the log castle. The castle captain of Gárdony guides visitors throughout the castle, through the casemate system, and of course they can get a glimpse into the lives of the castle's defending knights!

The settlement's natural values are faithfully represented by the Chernel István Bird Observatory, which was built between 1957-59 by Jenő Radetzky. Its goal is to teach young people, entertain visitors, and foster nature conservation. Besides researchers, it gladly welcomes children and other interested people during the summer holidays.

The biggest event of the settlement is the Fish, Game, Wine, and Pálinka Festival of Lake Velence held on the first weekend of May, to whose special programs thousands of guests arrive.

Lake Velence offers numerous excellent opportunities for water sports, welcoming water sports enthusiasts with waterskiing and surfing possibilities, and there is also the chance to kayak and canoe in the area, besides which it offers a great opportunity to anglers to indulge in their beloved sport.

There is also the possibility of boat trips from spring until late autumn, departing from Agárd, passing through uniquely named clearings and reed beds.

Come and visit, the organizers are waiting for you with love!

The exhibitions take place in the area of the free beach of Agárd, where the MEOE Székesfehérvár Independent Organization warmly welcomes all interested parties, guests, and exhibitors with their dogs on June 29 and 30 with two high-standard CACIB dog shows!
