The right to organize the first all-breed CAC national dog show of 2019 was won by the Dog Breeders Association of Nógrád County from the MEOE Federation. The national CAC show will be held on March 24, 2019 in Salgótarján, traditionally in the area of the Lake Beach.

The organizing Association of the show, the Dog Breeders Association of Nógrád County

There is an active dog life in Salgótarján. The Dog Breeders Association of Nógrád County, together with the well-functioning dog school, does a lot to improve the animal keeping culture in the area. The dog show is a very good opportunity for exhibitors devoted to this great dog sport to meet and share their experiences, driven by their love of dogs.

The Dog Breeders Association held its first dog show in the early 1990s. After this show, the next one could only be held after a long time. At the regional dog show organized in 2008, dogs could compete for the title of Salgótarján Beauty and Salgótarján Champion by breed in the rings. The Organization had a successful dog show behind it. In this hope, they trusted that soon they would also be granted the right to organize a CAC dog show. This time came in 2010, so in the most beautiful month of the spring season, May, they held a high-quality CAC show at Lake Beach with many beautifully presented dogs. After the successful 2010 show, the Organization was also able to hold dog shows in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018.

Introducing the dog show city, Salgótarján

The city of the CAC dog show is Salgótarján, which is the largest city in Nógrád County and the second smallest county seat in Hungary. The city lies in a narrow valley at the meeting point of the Karancs, Medves, and Cserhát mountain ranges.

The name Salgótarján dates back to the era of the Hungarian conquest, but its significant history goes back only some 150 years. The modern history of Salgótarján began in the mid-20th century with the discovery of brown coal, when the settlement emerged from the ranks of insignificant serf villages.

Brown coal mining began around 1850 on the Inászó plain near the future city, making Salgótarján almost naturally the center of coal mining and the industry built around it. The city became the county seat in 1950, which marked the beginning of city development, the most significant phase of which started in the early 1960s with the reconstruction of the outdated city center. The economic boom also dates to this period and continued until the regime change. From the second half of the 2000s, a city beautification program was launched aiming to create a more beautiful, better, and livable city over the next 20 years.

Among Salgótarján’s sights, we must mention the churches, of which there are plenty in the city, a total of seven: four Roman Catholic, one Greek Catholic, one Reformed, and one Lutheran. The northern part of the city houses tourist attractions, museums and historic buildings are located in the city center, while the southern part of the city is still dominated by industrial plants.

Salgótarján’s most famous and popular tourist attraction is the ruins of Salgó Castle, which stands above the city to the north, on a 625-meter-high rocky peak above the settlement of Salgóbánya.

Information about its past can be gathered from archaeological finds and ancient documents brought to light. Its early core, the massive old tower, was built on the summit by the Kacsics feudal family at the end of the 13th century. In the autumn of 1554, Turkish conquerors easily captured the castle, which was recaptured by the royal army 40 years later after a fierce siege. The victorious forces blew up the walls, the preservation of which continues to this day. It is a very popular hiking destination for tourists.

Among the city’s natural sights, the Vadaspark (Wildlife Park) must be highlighted, which covers 19 hectares in Somoskő. Within the enclosed forest parts, a natural habitat has been provided for a total of twenty-one large game native to Nógrád, including fallow deer, roe deer, wild boar, and mouflon. Visitors can observe the animals from walkways and seven lookout towers, making it a true experience for every nature and animal lover.

Come and visit, the organizers are waiting for you with love!

The exact location of the CAC dog show is the Tó-strand area, where on March 24th, the Ebtenyésztők Nógrád Megyei Egyesülete warmly welcomes all interested parties, guests, and exhibitors with their dogs with a high-quality CAC dog show!
