At this year's second to last CAC National Dog Show, we can participate with the organization and management of the Association of Dog Breeders and Hobby Dog Owners of the Southern Great Plain on October 18, 2015.

At this year's penultimate CAC National Dog Show, we can participate under the organization and arrangement of the South Great Plain Association of Dog Breeders and Hobby Dog Owners on October 18, 2015. The venue of the dog show this year is traditionally the Szabadidő Park in the village of Deszk, located 10 kilometers from Szeged.

The former Szeged organization of MEOE was established around the 1970s. In the decades following its foundation, the association tried to unite the local dog community, coordinated the work of breeders and exhibitors, and helped dogs and owners eager to learn with dog training sessions. Renewal came to the organization in 2012, when it transformed into an independent association, and its name was changed to the South Great Plain Association of Dog Breeders and Hobby Dog Owners. The Association's goal remains to promote the professional breeding of purebred dogs and to widely introduce and spread cultured dog keeping. Their plans include organizing and hosting dog shows, cynological events, competitions, promoting dog sports, supporting dog training, organizing related events, obedience, protection, agility, coursing, and hunting dog training.

The organization has great traditions in the field of dog shows, as since crossing into the 2000s it has organized and successfully conducted a CAC dog show almost every other year. The last national dog show was held in 2013, and they can organize it again this year. We wish them good organizational work, many beautiful exhibited dogs, lots of kind visitors, and a successfully conducted CAC dog show!

We present the most important information about the 2015 CAC dog show as follows!

"The most beautiful mirage of the Hungarian Great Plain / You are, my native city, Szeged" – this is how Juhász Gyula writes about his beloved city in his poem titled "Sonnet to Szeged". The motifs of the Hungarian Great Plain, the countryside around Szeged and the Tisza River always reappear as main themes in the landscape poems of Szeged’s poet. "I walk quietly on the Tisza shore / And listen to what the waves cry / I stop under a cloudy spring sky / And while the water flows and time runs / I feel that above the old Tisza / The star of eternal life flickers" – this small excerpt is quoted from Juhász Gyula's poem "Szeged". This poem decorates the statue of Juhász Gyula located in Roosevelt Square Park on the Szeged Tisza shore, which was erected in the poet’s memory in the 1950s.

The city of the CAC dog show is Szeged, which is Hungary's third largest and most populous city and the center of the Southern Great Plain region. The history of the city is closely connected to the Tisza River. One of the most defining events in the formation of the current cityscape was the flood of 1879. On the night leading into March 12th, the Tisza broke through the dam at Petre and flooded the city, which was practically completely destroyed. Of the 5723 houses, only 265 remained intact. Most of the city's population of 70,000 was relocated to other settlements, leaving only about 10,000 residents in Szeged. During his visit, Franz Joseph promised that Szeged would be more beautiful than before. The emperor kept his promise, and in the following years, a new, modern city was built on the ruins. After the waters slowly receded, the city was surrounded by embankments. This is when the ring-road structure of the city was formed. Several major European cities also helped with the rebuilding of the city, which is why sections of the great ring road were named after these cities. During the reconstruction, much of the Szeged castle was also demolished. The old buildings were replaced by more beautiful, modern buildings. The city was rebuilt and continuously developed, resulting in it becoming the seat of Csongrád County in 1962. During the socialist years, its role in the light and food industries was strengthened. In the 1990s, the factories established during socialism went bankrupt one after another. Today, Szeged is the most important city of the region, a university town, and also popular among tourists.

Szeged is a historic, atmospheric, and dynamically developing settlement on the banks of the Tisza. Over the centuries, many nicknames have been attached to the city; it is called the Famous City, the City of Sunshine, and the Festival City. The city’s dynamic commerce and its products known far and wide—such as Szeged salami or paprika—made it the Famous City; its almost Mediterranean climate and southern location earned it the title City of Sunshine; the year-round cultural events covering nearly all artistic branches—including the Szeged Open Air Festival—made it the Festival City. Gyula Juhász lived in Szeged, Miklós Radnóthy and Sándor Petőfi studied here, and Kálmán Mikszáth drew inspiration here. Szeged was an outstanding literary center in the past and continues to have an important role in the domestic literary life today.

The city of sunshine nickname was adopted due to a characteristic sun motif decoration on houses in Szeged, but the attractions are far from limited to these beautifully decorated residential buildings. There are many landmarks in Szeged: the Szeged Cathedral, the REÖK Palace, the New Synagogue, the Black House, the Count’s Palace, the Water Tower, the City Hall, the Musical Clock, the Szeged National Theater, the Serbian Church, the Reformed Church, the Votive Church, the Ferenc Móra Museum, the Pick Salami and Szeged Paprika Museum, Anna Bath, the Roman Catholic Church, the Alsóváros Church, all of which you can learn about in detail from this film.

The city offers numerous programs for visiting tourists and locals alike. The museums, galleries, cinemas, discos, and theaters in the city all provide excellent entertainment opportunities. A prominent cultural event is the summer Szeged Open Air Festival, held in the open space in front of the Votive Church, where world-famous opera singers and actors frequently perform, attracting several thousand spectators to Dóm Square each evening. The city also hosts several fairs and festivals. Besides the wine and beer festival, the fish soup cooking competition and the Szeged Industrial Exhibition held at Roosevelt Square enrich the program offerings. Szeged has a long-standing tradition in kayak and canoe sports. The prestigious sports events held on the high-standard rowing track located in Szeged often attract sports enthusiasts to the city. The Kayak-Canoe World Championships were held here in 1998, 2006, and 2011. Besides this, the thermal baths, swimming pools, and Tisza river beaches also make the city an ideal tourist destination.

One of the city’s most beautiful and high-quality events is considered the Szőreg Rose Festival. Local residents lovingly welcome back every year all those who, like them, are lovers of roses.

During the three days, there is an opportunity to get insight into the daily lives of rose producers; visitors can get to know the rose fields around Szőreg and the daily work taking place in the fields.

In addition to the current production methods and tools, Hungary's first Rose Museum also showcases tangible and written memories that look back over centuries. The main attraction of the Szőreg Rose Festival is the carnival parade held on Saturday afternoon, where a festive procession decorated with hundreds of thousands of rose stems marches through the streets of Szőreg. After the parade, concerts lasting until dawn, stage programs, and fireworks entertain the guests of the Szőreg Rose Festival.

Among the city's specialties are the Szeged Paprika, the Szeged Fisherman's Soup, and Pick salami. Szeged Paprika is now a Hungarikum. The first record mentioning the word paprika in Szeged dates back to 1748. According to the common people, it was the priests — who were also teachers and doctors at the time — who wished to spread and naturalize the plant found in their gardens. To prove its usefulness and good taste, they began to eat it. Since the paprika was quite hot, the priests started to shed tears. Thus, the word paprika was derived from the term "papríkató" (priest's tears). In the early 19th century, Napoleon's conquests and the trade embargo he imposed caused a spice shortage, which boosted paprika cultivation, allowing it to be produced in commercial quantities. The demand for Szeged paprika powder steadily grew, its fame and product reached increasingly distant countries.

The Szeged Fisherman's Soup is the most famous along the Tisza River. Its characteristic is that it is made from several types of fish. After cooking, the smaller fish, heads, and tails are "passed through," that is, pressed through a sieve. This thickens the broth without including various debris. The fish meat is then cooked into this base broth. Szeged lies on the bank of the Tisza River. The standout qualities of Pick salami, the harmonious aroma, and the unique flavor come from local peculiarities. The distinctive properties of the raw materials, the traditional salami production technology, the climatic conditions related to the proximity of the Tisza, the presence of mold flora, and the preserved craft skills — passed down from salami master to salami master — all contributed to the Szeged winter salami, which is now considered a traditional product, conquering the world.

Szeged is also rich in natural attractions. We must first mention the Szeged Wildlife Park, which is Hungary's youngest and largest (450,000 square meters) zoo. It specializes primarily in keeping endangered species, with the South American animal section being especially outstanding.

The animal collection of the Szeged Wildlife Park is not the largest in Hungary. If we look only at the numbers, it is considered a medium-sized zoo. However, if we consider the rarity of species and conservation value, the statement that Szeged has one of the most special zoos in our country is justified. A significant portion of the animal species here is rare even by European standards. Among domestic zoos, Szeged has the largest proportion of animals kept as part of international species preservation programs. Naturally, popular zoo animals are also present; we have lions, meerkats, and camels, and we plan to keep giraffes and spectacled penguins in the near future.

It is less well known that zoos also serve as regional nature conservation rescue centers. They take in large numbers of injured wild animals, orphaned young animals or chicks, or animals transported and kept without authorization, then confiscated by authorities. The Szeged Wildlife Park stands out from domestic zoos in this respect as well, especially due to its proximity to the border, playing a significant role in receiving such animals.

The Botanical Garden of the University of Szeged is a mecca for plant and nature lovers. The garden houses 5,120 plant species, of which about 1,800 are tropical species. There are 440 cacti and 470 other succulents. Its special features include the Chinese giant sequoia and the Indian lotus.

The greenhouse is home to tropical, subtropical, Mediterranean, and desert plants, housing nearly 1200 plant species from distant lands. Tropical trees growing over 7 meters high, including colorful epiphytic orchids, bromeliads, ferns, succulents, and cacti provide a diverse spectacle for visitors.

The fern collection, containing more than 100 species and varieties, is one of the richest in the country. Among the 400 species of succulents, the largest are the agaves, but aloes, lilies, and spurges also present a captivating sight.

Nature lovers are welcome in all seasons—winter, summer, spring, and autumn—at Erzsébet-liget in Újszeged, the city's romantic forest park. We owe the beautiful park to the Austrian soldiers who suppressed the 1848–1849 War of Independence. In 1858, Imperial officer Baron Vilmos Reitzenstein and his soldiers transformed the overgrown, uneven wilderness that once stood in place of the park.

More and more people in Szeged are discovering the refreshing charm of park life. Professional athletes—mainly walkers, long-distance runners, triathletes, and handball players—have been taking advantage of the park's excellent conditions for years, happily conducting their running training in the fresh air. Locals who even care a little about their health also regularly contribute to the park's lively atmosphere.

The actual venue of the dog show is the Leisure Park of the village of Deszk (located 10 minutes from Szeged), where on October 18th the South Great Plain Association of Dog Breeders and Hobby Dog Owners warmly welcomes every guest and exhibitor with their dogs to a high-quality and colorful CAC dog show!
