With the arrival of the colorful autumn, we can be part of a 2 x CACIB international exhibition organized by the Hírös Hungarian Dog Breeders' Independent Association (MEOE former Kecskemét Organization) on September 6th and 7th, 2014. On both days, we can participate in a CACIB international dog show, in Kecskemét, at the green area of the Benkó Zoltán Leisure Center. On Saturday, August 6th, 2014, the I. László Fekete Memorial Rottweiler Show will also take place.
Looking back from the early 2000s, organizing dog shows has become a tradition in the life of the Kecskemét Dog Breeders Association. The autumn CACIB dog show was organized by the Association for many years (in which we also participated several times and really enjoyed it – ed.). After a few years of break, this show was held as a CAC exhibition in 2008, 2010, and 2013 as well. This year, the traditionally early September show has returned in the form of an international dog show again.

The venue of the 2 x CACIB international dog show is Kecskemét, which is the seat of Bács-Kiskun county and also Hungary’s eighth largest city. The “city of fame” unites historical traditions with modern aspirations. Its beautiful public buildings tell stories of ancient times, and its museums and galleries hold significant cultural value.
One of the most beautiful city centers in the country can be seen in Kecskemét, where a series of remarkable buildings greet the visitor. First is the Art Nouveau style Town Hall building decorated with majolica ornaments, whose facade bells play Kodály’s Viennese bell play, and the ceremonial hall is adorned with murals by Bertalan Székely. The decorative hall of the Ornate Palace building, embellished with colorful flower decorations and evoking the world of Hungarian folk tales, combines popular Art Nouveau motifs into a spectacular unity. The building today serves as the city’s gallery, housing a valuable collection of 19th and 20th-century Hungarian painting.
The main square’s defining building is the Great Church, which is the largest copf style cathedral in the Great Plain, and was for a long time the model for churches in the Great Plain. Opposite the Town Hall stands Kecskemét’s oldest architectural monument, the Franciscan Church. The associated monastery was built by the Franciscans and today houses the Zoltán Kodály Music Pedagogy Institute, whose ground floor features a permanent exhibition about the famous composer’s life. Zoltán Kodály’s name is inseparably linked with the city. At the Zoltán Kodály Singing and Music School, students are taught based on the world-famous Kodály method principles.
Among Kecskemét’s famous natives, along with Zoltán Kodály, the playwright József Katona should be mentioned, whose name is honored by the Katona József Theater, and the poet Sándor Petőfi, who lived and worked in the city between 1828 and 1830.
Other Secessionist historical buildings in the city include the Lutheran Church designed by Miklós Ybl, built in romantic style. An integral part of the cityscape is the Reformed Church, which bears several stylistic elements, as well as the former Moorish-style synagogue with its onion dome tower.
Among its attractions, we must highlight the Kecskemét Game Park, which is territorially the smallest zoo in the country. It was established in 1971, primarily for showcasing native game and indigenous Hungarian domestic animals. The previous species composition has now significantly expanded, and thus with the wonderful specimens of 110 species and 400 individuals, all continents of the world are represented. The goal of the Kecskemét Game Park is the conservation and enrichment of the existing natural values.
Among the city's natural sights, the Kecskemét Arboretum stands out, abundant in stunning natural beauties. The collection garden covers an area of 62 hectares and contains more than 900 different plant species and their varieties. With its significant plant collection, the Arboretum is a prominent part of Kecskemét's green space. In the young plant collection, among others, we can now rest in the shade of tulip trees, lily trees, giant sequoias, oaks, and rubber trees. The youngest part of the arboretum is the oak collection, which on 16 hectares showcases oak types that can withstand dry conditions from Hungary and some foreign countries. Besides educational trails, the arboretum welcomes visitors with a species playground, lookout tower, rain shelters, and a pergola.
The International Dog Show in Kecskemét takes place at the Benkó Zoltán Leisure Center, which, next to the Arboretum, forms an integral part of the city's green belt area. On half of the total area, an artificial lake was created, and from the excavated soil, a 40-meter-high hill was built. On the remaining land areas, a wooded and park-like area was developed.
All interested parties, guests, and exhibitors with their dogs are warmly welcomed to Kecskemét, to the green belt of the Benkó Zoltán Leisure Center, for the autumn greeting 2 x CACIB international dog show by the Independent Association of Hírös Hungarian Dog Breeders!
