In the next installment of our photo series showcasing the world of exhibitions, we head to the venue of the Hungarian exhibition, the city by the lake of sunshine. The landscape in this part of Transdanubia is breathtaking.

We are heading to the location of the next Hungarian exhibition in our pictorial series showcasing the world of exhibitions, to the city of the lake of sunshine. The landscape is breathtaking even in this part of Transdanubia. Especially in this season, it offers a wonderful sight, when nature presents a cavalcade of magnificent yellow and golden colors alongside green hues to the eyes of travelers, as if encouraging them to take a deep breath of the honey-scented air and simultaneously enjoy the view and the intoxicating fragrance.

We pass by meadows rich in wildflowers, with many stacks of straw bales on the fields in many places, sometimes completely flat, elsewhere hilly, this region has varied terrain.

We arrive at one of Hungary's favorite resort towns, Velence, nestled in the embrace of Lake Velence and the Velence Hills. This landscape together is wonderful to behold, worthy of a painter's canvas.

The small town with more than 5000 inhabitants is a popular excursion spot thanks to its favorable natural conditions and sights. Among its diverse events, the Velence Summer Evenings series held every summer stands out, where those seeking relaxation can enjoy highly successful musical performances, brass band concerts, and majorette shows. Additionally, St. John's Day in June and St. Stephen's Day in August promise great programs.

Among Velence's attractions, we must mention the Beck Castle, built in neo-baroque style standing freely in the town center, constructed by the namesake Beck family at the end of the 1800s. The castle has been privately owned since its renovation in 1989 and is not open to visitors.

The Geschwind Castle was built in the 1920s, designed and executed by our famous architect Alajos Hauszmann. Part of the interior of the building has remained in its original condition to this day, but it is not open to visitors nowadays. Protected linden and chestnut trees tower in the castle's garden. The Meszleny Castle is an 18-room manor house, which, along with its park, belonged to the Meszleny family until 1945. In its current ruined state, it is no longer accessible.

Other sights in the town include the Reformed Church, which is nearly three and a half centuries old and preserves memories of the distant past, and the 200-year-old Catholic Church named after St. Stephen, built in neoclassical style.

Velence is also called the "flower city," as the city leadership and residents do a lot to decorate the city with plants and flowers to create a cultured, healthy environment. The greening initiative started in Velence in 1996, and every year more than 50,000 flower seedlings are planted in parks, along roads, and in public spaces.

In 2000, the city of Velence won the title of the most flowered domestic settlement, and in 2001 it received a silver medal in the European Flowering Towns competition. Since then, the collection of “trophies” of the greening enthusiasts is expanding with new recognitions every year. As a recognition of the achievements in greening, the city has even received its “own” rose variety: a rose breeder named a new variety after Velence.

Velence – according to its slogan the "flower city" – does a lot to be worthy of the title “donated” by its residents, so the arrival of the youngest is celebrated every year by planting new rose bushes. In 2003, as a unique initiative in the country, the Baby Rose Garden was established, where a rosebush is planted for every newborn in the locality by their parents.

The garden has now almost developed into a grove, with more than five hundred rosebushes and nameplates indicating the population growth of Velence city.

The city surrounding the northeastern end of Lake Velence is blessed with a wonderful natural environment and offers many attractions to visitors. Lake Velence offers numerous excellent opportunities for water sports, including water skiing, surfing, and rowing, attracting water sports enthusiasts. Additionally, it provides great opportunities for anglers to indulge in their beloved sport.

Nature lovers can take magical walks to Bence Hill, from where they can enjoy a wonderful view. The panorama of Lake Velence and the surrounding settlements offers a breathtaking sight.

Velence is also the city of the 2nd Velence Lake dog show. The magnificent Lake Velence is the second largest lake in the area. The lake has a varied aquatic flora and fauna. Many animal species protected by nature conservation, including rare bird species, live and breed on the lake. The area of the lake offers pleasant recreation for bathers, water sports enthusiasts, and anglers alike.

Dog breeders awaited exhibitors and visitors from 7:00 AM at the Velence Rowing Course area. The water dog show offered numerous interesting and enjoyable programs. This was told to us by Erzsébet Sebestyénné Enyedi and her husband Sándor Sebestyén, owners of the Szentmiklósi Csillag Fénye chow-chow and pug kennel, who participated as visitors with their family at this water dog show:

“Driven by a sudden idea, we decided to go out on Saturday to the dog show held next to Lake Velence. Actually, last year we already participated as exhibitors at the dog show organized by Lake Velence, and we had a great time, so we thought again about doing a wonderful family program and attending with the whole family. So we hardly waited for Saturday, and finally, it came.

We expected that the weather would be appropriate for the season and that we could have a great family picnic by Lake Velence at this water dog show, among many beautiful dogs. But unfortunately, the weather looked quite gloomy on this promising Saturday morning, it was cool and the sky was overcast. Hoping for an improvement in the weather, the family set off: my husband Sándor, our little son Sanyika, myself, and Armand, the chow-chow, who never misses anything.

As soon as we started, Armand and Sanyika comfortably settled in the back seats and together they watched the beautiful landscape through the window. We traveled through many beautiful towns, so there was always something to catch their attention. As we approached Lake Velence, we saw more and more dark clouds gathering in the sky, and by the time we reached Velence, it was drizzling.

Upon arriving at the exhibition area, the rain intensified. Many tried to hide from the sudden rain in different ways. But some did not even try, and those got soaked accordingly. We were protected from the rain in the car and could only get out after about half an hour without getting wet.

The exhibitors and guests were welcomed with warm hospitality by the organizers of the exhibition. There was everything imaginable for every dog lover’s delight, vendors where we could purchase all kinds of dog products, and a buffet with delicious treats. I believe I don’t need to say that the "kids," namely Sanyika and Armand, as usual, were immediately captivated by the buffet. After enjoying some good food and as the weather started to improve, we set off to explore the exhibition. We met many acquaintances and, of course, exchanged a few kind words with everyone.

The organizers prepared many interesting programs for that day, expecting weather conditions typical for the season, and offered exhibitors and visitors the opportunity for all-day swimming and fishing in a part of Lake Velence. In the morning, there was a hobby dog beauty contest, where those wishing to participate could register their favorites on site. Also, in the morning, a wet dog competition took place; thanks to the sudden rain, the dogs didn’t even have to jump into the water to get wet. As an interesting program, a protection and guard demonstration was held, where we admired the special abilities of the dogs, and we really enjoyed this show.

The Ebugatta Day was held simultaneously and at the same location as the dog exhibition, within which many exciting competitions took place, and the most beautiful dogs also had photo sessions.

Around noon, the sun came out, and finally, we were able to walk down to Lake Velence, where the water was still quite wavy, but it was a spectacular sight after the rain, as the sun’s rays shone down and sparkled reflected off the lake’s surface.

Thanks to the warming weather, many people let their dogs swim in the designated parts of the lake, but several owners also happily bathed together with their dogs. It was nice to see how much fun they were having—many beautiful dogs and their happy owners together!

Our entire family also thoroughly enjoyed this day, which started a bit slowly due to the weather, but from midday onward, with the sparkling sunshine, we had a wonderful time and by the end of the day, we could say that we spent a fantastic day at Velence at the wet dog exhibition. We promise to return next year as well, but as exhibitors this time!”

For those who could not attend, we also recommend the photos taken at the exhibition, which offer a taste of the atmosphere at the Velence wet dog exhibition:

As Erzsike mentioned in the report, an interesting and special Ebugatta Day was also held simultaneously and at the same location as the exhibition, and here we can watch a video presented by Ebugatta TV about it:

Many thanks to Erzsébet Sebestyénné Enyedi and her husband, Sándor Sebestyén, from the Szentmiklósi Csillag Fénye kennel>> for the interesting and detailed exhibition report and for the many beautiful photos that gave us a glimpse into the "Colorful and Special World of Exhibitions."

Congratulations to all exhibitors, and especially to the winners for their outstanding results achieved at the exhibition!
