Encouraged by the success of last year's special dog show, the MEOE Miskolc Independent Organization would like to invite all dog lovers to a similarly colorful and enjoyable Retro CAC dog show again this year. The Retro CAC national dog show will be held in Miskolc on the grounds of the old Stromfeld barracks (the organization’s dog school) on September 12, 2015.

Exhibitors who dress up according to the fashion of the 60s and 70s for the Retro CAC will receive a special prize within the Best In Show.
The winner of the costume contest will receive a wellness relaxation.
The costume contest applies only and exclusively to the owners (humans, not dogs); only exhibitors may dress up, dressing up the dogs is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate disqualification from the costume contest.

Visitor programs during the exhibition:

The organizers of the exhibition do not only aim at exhibitors with the event, offering colorful and special programs for families and guests visiting the exhibition alike. Retro music, motor-rock show and retro horse show will enrich the retro atmosphere of the exhibition.

The Hobby Dog Beauty Contest also promises to be an interesting program, where purebred and mixed-breed dogs without pedigree can participate, and registration is open until 2015.08.31 according to the following categories:

• small-sized (dogs under 30 cm at the withers)
• medium-sized (dogs 30-45 cm at the withers)
• large-sized (dogs above 45 cm at the withers)

Entry fee: 4000 HUF

The MEOE Miskolc Independent Organization has a long tradition in organizing dog shows, having been granted the right almost every year since the 2000s by the parent organization to organize national or international dog shows. Looking back at the international shows, the Organization was able to host 2 x CACIB international shows in both 2008 and 2010, which continued in 2012 and 2013 under the name “Marathon Dog Show” expanded with an additional “Moonlight” CAC national dog show. Thus, over two days, exhibitors and visitors could take part in 2 international CACIB and 1 national CAC dog shows. Regarding national shows, the Organization held CAC dog shows in 2007, then again in 2010 and 2014. This year, the MEOE Federation granted the opportunity to hold both shows – the Marathon Dog Show and the Retro CAC.

The 62-year-old MEOE Miskolc Independent Organization puts great emphasis on puppy and young dog socialization at its well-functioning dog school, where a dog kindergarten operates as the first step within the dog school for baby and young dogs and their owners, who can participate first in socialization training. In the dog school called “My Dog School,” located on the former Stromfeld barracks grounds, renowned master trainers conduct work and hobby dog training. Young and adult dogs and their owners can participate in several types of training, such as Obedience, Companion Dog, and Toy training, as well as special ring dressage preparation for those getting ready for the exhibition. The management of the MEOE Miskolc Independent Organization and the master dog trainers warmly welcome dogs and owners who wish to learn to the various courses of “My Dog School” in the future.

The city of the Retro CAC dog show is Miskolc, which is the county seat of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county and the third most populous city in Hungary, also serving as the county’s cultural and economic center. The city lies embedded in the eastern side of the Bükk Mountains, in the valleys of three rivers, and owes its exceptional natural beauty to this wonderful location.

Archaeological findings indicate that the area has been inhabited since ancient times, and it is currently recognized as the oldest continuously inhabited region in Hungary. It was already an important trade city in the Middle Ages, and after the Turkish occupation, its industry also began to develop. The city's prosperity started in the 1900s, as it sought to become the major city of the region independently, becoming an industrial, commercial, financial, and cultural center. During the socialist period, Miskolc became a stronghold of heavy industry. In the years after the regime change, the city shifted its focus towards culture and tourism.

The most significant attractions in the city center include the romantically styled City Hall, the Saint Stephen statue surrounded by a beautiful floral area, Erzsébet Square with the Elisabeth Bath, and the People's Garden with its fabulous promenades, home to the Sculpture Park featuring the statue of Queen Elisabeth. Further attractions and monuments include the Romanesque-style Avasi Reformed Church, the Gothic-style Greek Orthodox Church, the Hungarian Orthodox Church Museum, which presents the history and heritage of the Greek Orthodox Church, the Deszka Church, and the late-classicist Miskolc National Theatre building enriched with romantic elements.

In the surroundings of the city, Miskolctapolca, Diósgyőr, and Lillafüred offer numerous sights.

In Miskolctapolca, belonging to the city, there is the enchanting cave bath, which is one of the most atmospheric and romantic places in the city. The thermal water bath is very popular among both locals and tourists, as the bath located in the cave system and outdoors is an ideal choice in every season, whether it is for a romantic relaxation, a large family holiday, or night bathing.

In historic Diósgyőr there is the Gothic castle that was a dowry gift from queens for centuries. The Diósgyőr Castle, built in the 15th century, reached its heyday during the reign of King Louis the Great, and today it is one of the country's most important monuments. The medieval castle ruins and restored buildings themselves count as a living museum.

Of the palace building, which used to include about 50 rooms and has a floor area of 2500 m², the four tall towers and the ground floors of the wings connecting them, as well as some upstairs ruins, stand today. Inside the castle, one can see a castle history and weapon exhibition, wax figures of King Louis the Great and the Venetian ambassador, a panopticon, and a mint. The castle is mainly worth visiting in summer, when castle games entertain visitors and transport us back to the era of the Sun King.

The area around the city also attracts nature lovers, as one of the country's most beautiful natural areas, Lillafüred, belongs to Miskolc. Here, hikers can see natural treasures such as the Lillafüred waterfall, one of the few waterfalls in our country.

But here are also the Szinva valley, Hámori lake, the Anna Cave which is considered a world rarity, and the largest limestone cave in the region, the István Cave. Lillafüred can truly be explored easily thanks to the Lillafüred State Forest Railway built here, which passes by wonderful landmarks and attractions.

Among the city's natural attractions is the Avasi Arboretum located in the inner area of Miskolc. Its creation and the planting of its plant species began in 1986; from the 6-hectare area, currently a 1.5-hectare park section planted with pines and evergreens is accessible, where orientation is aided by signage placed by the park maintainers. The Avasi Arboretum is home to the richest conifer collection in our country, with nearly 1000 specimens of 600 plant species that can be studied here. The collection is particularly rich in Hungarian-bred pines. The arboretum hosts 12 types of cedar, 36 types of spruce pine, 39 types of fir, 55 types of fascicled pine, 9 types of redwood, 136 types of false cypress, 173 types of juniper, 37 types of yew, and 96 types of arborvitae. On a new 4.5-hectare area, planting of deciduous trees has also begun.

In a wonderful forest environment, in the Csanyik valley, is the Miskolc Zoo and Cultural Park, one of the youngest and at the same time one of the oldest traditional institutions in our country. Written records prove that in 1355 a royal Game Park already operated in this area, its creation attributed to King Louis the Great.

In the Zoo, we can see nearly 700 individuals of more than 300 animal species from 5 continents in an environment similar to their natural habitat. Alongside native animal species, here we can see one of Central Europe's largest wolf packs, as well as admire numerous birds, large game, and predators. The Zoo area borders the Bükk National Park, thus offering visitors a taste of its rich flora as well.

A special feature of the zoo is the conservation sculpture park. Here, they commemorate those European naturalists who were key figures in the development of modern zoological culture; and with life-sized, bronze statues of extinct animal species, they draw attention to the irreparable damage humans can cause to nature. The Zoo always welcomes visitors with colorful events, offering diverse programs for all age groups to enjoy.

Miskolc City Day is celebrated every year on May 11, when the city blooms, decorated with over 100,000 annual flowers in the squares, parks, and streets.

The magnificently beautiful Flower Clock located in Szent István Square also takes its final form by this time, so that it can shine in its uniquely magical shape at the city day.

“The city where it is good to live, where something is always happening, where visitors always find experiences, where competitions can be held on Europe’s longest main street, where many come and where many more could come. Miskolc, a place worth visiting and getting to know up close.”

All interested parties, guests, and exhibitors with their dogs are warmly welcomed by the MEOE Miskolc Independent Organization on the 12th day of the first month of the colorful autumn with a special and colorful Retro CAC dog show!
