This year, the European Dog Show welcomes show dogs and dog lovers in Norway! The world's second most prestigious international dog show and dog event will bring together the best of the dog world in Oslo from September 04 to 06.

Norway – for the first time in the history of the European Dog Shows – will host this grand show. The Norwegian Kennel Club, the organizer of the exhibition, is ready to welcome the world’s show dogs.

At the 3-day event, 51 countries will be represented showcasing 350 breeds. For the Euro Dog Show, 12,000 dog entries have been registered, while 5,000 entries have arrived for various breed club shows. With the largest number of entries, 183 dogs, the Flat Coated Retriever is represented in the breed, and with 176 individuals, the Staffordshire Bullterrier is also present.

Euro Dog Show history:

The European Dog Show, translated as the European Dog Show, is every year the second largest and most prestigious exhibition, which now has a 33-year tradition. Applications to host the exhibition must be submitted years in advance, and the FCI, the International Cynological Federation's Board, decides by vote which country or nation will host the European show in a given year.

The first European Dog Show was held in 1982 in Brussels, and the second the following year in Zurich. Since 1982, the FCI (Federation Cynologique Internationale), the most prestigious international dog organization, annually awards the right to host the event by tender to a country. After the first two, the further European Shows have been held in the following cities: Verona, Lyon, Luxembourg, Tulln, Maastricht, Verona, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Genoa, Tulln, Poznan, Tel Aviv, Paris, Bratislava, Barcelona, Tulln, Helsinki, Zagreb, Budapest, Dublin, Celje, Leeuwarden, Bucharest, Geneva, Brno, and this year the spectacular dog show has arrived in Oslo. Next year, Belgium will host this grand show with the venue in Brussels.

Hungary is also part of the history:

In 2008, Hungary had the honor to host the best of show dogs. The European Dog Show was organized in Budapest by the Hungarian National Association of Dog Breeders. For the 4-day event, 15,000 entries were registered from 61 countries across five continents. Hungary had the highest number of entries, followed by Russia in second place, and Italy in third, submitting the most dogs to this grand and memorable event. Hopefully, this was not the last time our small country hosted the European Dog Show, as the MEOE Federation recently applied for the right to host the 2019 Euro Dog Show! We are rooting for them to succeed!

How it works:

During the event, every BOB (breed winner) and BOS (best opposite sex) winning dog, as well as the Best Junior (winner in the junior class for dogs aged 9-18 months), receives the European Winner title (EW). The BOB winners from different breeds then compete for the BIG (Best In Group) title within their group. The 10 BIG winners then compete for the BIS (Best In Show) title, fighting for the title of the world’s most beautiful dog.

The Show:

During the Euro Dog Show, many Club Shows and other special sports and other competitions take place, loved by dog enthusiasts. Among the entertaining programs of the event are the Dog Dance and Flyball competitions, which provide an unforgettable show for the audience. Among the sport competitions, Agility is very spectacular, with the spectators' cheering inspiring the players. A very charming program is the Junior Handlers competition, where young people participate with dogs of various breeds and sizes. Additionally, there are other dog competitions that showcase some of the dogs’ amazing abilities like guide work, rescue, drug detection, guard and protection tasks, etc.

The Euro Dog Show in 2015 will definitely be a memorable event in Norway, a great opportunity for the city of Oslo. Norway is the land of the midnight sun, with pleasant and mild weather, thanks to the Gulf Stream during the summer season. The Euro Dog Show will be held between September 04 and 06. During this period, the temperature is usually very pleasant in Oslo, despite the air being quite sharp even in the evening.
Oslo, the capital of Norway, is located in a beautiful place, between the captivating Oslo Fjord and the Oslomarka forest. This combination makes it a great place for every visitor and traveler, as it combines city life with outdoor activities. Norway's majestic mountains, the waters cascading into the sea, the sparkling fjords, the glowing northern lights, the midnight sun, and the high mountain peaks have all contributed to Norway being well-known internationally. Oslo does not boast significant monuments or landmarks, yet it is a cozy, one might say: human-scale city, a place where people gladly stroll and walk. Partly because a large part of the capital’s area is covered by forest. It has numerous museums and architectural monuments worth seeing, surrounded by trees, mostly located in the city center, and easily reachable on foot. Norwegians and foreign visitors alike highly appreciate Norway’s treasures, the endless rivers, the huge waterfalls, the green forests, and Norway’s bustling urban life. When visiting Oslo, you can see 50 museums and numerous art galleries, including the internationally renowned attractions such as Vigeland Sculpture Park, the Viking Ship Museum, the Munch Museum, and Holmenkollen.

Between September 04 and 06, 12,000 registered dogs will compete for the European championship titles at the Euro Dog Show.
Additionally, 5,000 registered dogs will compete in the various Breed Club Shows.
There will be 51 participating countries from all over the world at the event, with Norway leading, followed by Sweden, Russia in third place, and many other nations such as Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Laos, Malta, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand, and the United States.

The 2015 Euro Dog Show will showcase the best dogs in every breed, and the audience will participate in a unique show of its kind, which is a combination of competition, training, and culture for dog lovers.

The Norwegian Kennel Club organizing the Euro Dog Show was founded in 1898, making it the largest club for dog owners. Currently, there are about 225 different clubs operating in Norway with 75,000 members divided into 13 regions, and more than 30,000 puppies are registered annually. They keep records of confirmed dysplasia and elbow results as well as numerous other health screening outcomes and operate a youth section under the name NKKU. The Kennel Club's headquarters are in Oslo, where 35 employees assist with the administration of the Kennel Club’s operations. The Norwegian Kennel Club has been a member of the FCI since 1935. Although the Norwegian Kennel Club has never had the honor of hosting a prestigious European or World Dog Show, it has a great tradition in organizing dog shows. In 1936, they were already hosts of the first International FCI Show. They host 11 international exhibitions where approximately 28,000 dogs are registered annually. Their various member associations also register an additional 67,000 dog entries. The Kennel Club works with 160 authorized international conformation judges and their work in the rings is supported by 280 trained personnel.

While the best dogs of different breeds compete against each other in 10 breed groups, the general public can also see numerous interesting dog sports and other competitions and shows in many rings.

The Agility competition, which is a great sport where dogs compete and maneuver through various obstacles on a timed course under the control of their owners. This is not just a competition but small challenges in perfect harmony with the owner, at the end of which everyone is happy.

Flyball is a true relay-style race. Four dogs per team compete against each other in knockout format. Each dog jumps over four hurdles, then steps on a box which releases a ball. The dog then returns the ball to the starting point, and as soon as the dog returns, the next dog can start, continuing until all dogs finish the race.

Among all, the most awaited and most successful is Freestyle Dog Dancing, a freestyle sport and dance at the same time, where the dog and its handler "dance" together to music, demonstrating their skills.

And finally, the Junior Handling competitions, for the dedicated young people between 10 and 17 years old, who must present the dog entrusted to them in the ring in front of the judge in the best possible way.

Junior Handlers are required to present the dogs to the best of their abilities by performing various formations. The first fundamental rule they must comply with is respect and love for the dogs.

The general public can also enjoy dog-related programs day by day, such as demonstrations of service dogs and Norwegian breeds, as well as the Lanulla dog clothing fashion show.

Organizers offer numerous playful and entertaining programs for children on all three days, including getting to know different dog breeds, learning and participating in dog agility competitions thanks to NKKU, and every day they can enjoy free ice cream and sweets in abundance.

The Euro Dog Show in 2015 will be unforgettable not only for those who participate in the competition with their dogs but for all lovers of man's best friend. The main ring hosts numerous wonderful, exciting, and special performances every day, starring the dog and the human. Those who want to deepen their knowledge of the world of dogs can attend scientific conferences every day thanks to the experts from Eukanuba. The Euro Dog Show is open to everyone – families and children, young and old, professionals, and the simply curious alike.
