Almost every dog-loving owner has experienced from time to time this peculiar way of thinking and behavior, when someone says “let me enlighten you, it’s Just a dog” or “spending so much money on it, since it’s ‘Just a dog’.” They don’t understand the shared walks, the time spent, or the arising costs, because for them it’s “Just a dog.”
If you also think and feel that he is “Just a dog,” then you probably understand it as “Just a friend,” “Just a sunset,” or “Just a promise.”
In my memories, many of my proudest moments were caused by “Just a dog.” Even in some of the saddest moments of my life, “Just a dog” helped a lot, on those sad and painful days “Just a dog’s” tenderness and love helped me survive, to overcome the troubles.
“Just a dog” teaches us humans values in life that are priceless, values such as:
- listening and paying attention
- exercising daily
- resting and relaxing
- sharing joy and sorrow with others
- fighting and triumphing
- being loyal
- saying goodbye and farewell
- helping in healing
- being a hero
- rejoicing wholeheartedly in everything
- enjoying life.
“Just a dog” brings the essence of friendship, trust, and pure, selfless love into my life.
“Just a dog” brings out empathy and patience in me, through which I can be a better person.
I get up early every day because of “Just a dog,” take walks, and watch the landscape together for hours.
For me and for people like me, he is not “Just a dog.” He is the kind and beloved memory of the past, the embodiment of the dreams and hopes of the future, and the pure joy of the present moments! “Just a dog” brings out the good in me and helps divert my thoughts from daily worries! I know he will always be with me, unconditionally!
I hope these people will understand one day that he is not “Just a dog.” He is the one who gives us humanity and protects us from being “Just a woman” or “Just a man.”
So the next time we hear the phrase “Just a dog,” we smile because they “Just don’t understand.”
