In 2019 he returns to Hungary with a completely new live presentation titled “It’s All About Family,” but this time he does not arrive alone – as part of his European tour, on November 14 he will perform at the Papp László Budapest Sports Arena with his two sons, Calvin and André.

The life path of Cesar Millan
The path to professional peaks was a long one for César Felipe Millán Favela, born in Culiacan, Mexico. Like most of his fellow villagers, he spent his childhood in a house completely lacking any comfort, where from the perspective of the house, the world was quite narrow. Nevertheless, he often visited his grandfather’s nearby farm in Ixpalino and here he took pleasure in immersing himself in the study of dog behavior. Grandfather Teodoro taught him many useful basic principles of dog behavior that Cesar still uses today. “When I started reading scientific books, I realized that most of the things my grandfather taught me came from his own experiences and mistakes. For example, he didn’t know that a dog’s sense of smell is 10,000 times stronger than a human’s, he just knew that dogs experience the world first through their noses. He was not a trained professional, but he was very instinctive, a born pack leader, and I think he saw the same ability in me.” – Millan recalls.
He was already a teenager when his family bought their first television set; from then on, young Cesar never missed a single dog-related show. His two favorites were the now classic production about “Lassie” and the series “The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin”, which inspired him to decide to move to California and study until he became the best dog trainer in the world. Cesar did everything for that. In December 1990, at the age of twenty-one, he illegally crossed from Mexico into the United States. Not speaking English, he first got a job at a dog grooming salon, where it soon became clear that he was good at handling difficult dogs. Actress Jada Pinkett Smith and her husband, famous American actor Will Smith, helped start Millan’s career: in exchange for help with their dogs, they paid for a language teacher for him for a year and recommended him to their colleagues as well.
In the United States, Millan was surprised to face how many emotionally traumatized and behaviorally disordered dogs lived in this wealthy country. Motivated by this sad discovery, he set a new goal for himself: he wanted to become not only a dog trainer but also a specialist dealing with rehabilitation. With money he had earned with great difficulty from car washing, he soon launched a dog rehabilitation business, offering his skills in extremely serious cases. Word of his successes spread like wildfire, and his client base rapidly grew, which is most clearly evidenced by the fact that by 1994, the first Hollywood celebrities had already appeared among his clients!
Cesar received the official residence permit for the United States in 2000.
The amazing dog doctor
In 2002, Cesar Millan founded the “Dog Psychology Center”, where he helps rehabilitate aggressive, injured, and problematic animals. It was at this time that the Los Angeles Times took notice, writing an article about him and his dedicated work.
Millan's career was on the rise, he signed a cooperation agreement that same year with the film production company MPH Entertainment Incorporation and the directors of Emery/Sumner Production to create a TV series. The concept of the show was to reflect Millan's experiences gathered over years working with behaviorally troubled dogs! Cesar rehabilitated hundreds of aggressive, frightened, and unbalanced dogs on the show, and in doing so helped families learn the proper behavior with their dogs, who had previously been ignorant and whose own behavior contributed to their dogs' bad behavior. The TV show is titled “Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan” (translated from English: Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan), in our country it was titled “The Wonderful Dog Doc.” The premiere was on September 13, 2004, on the National Geographic channel! The series exploded in popularity and its viewership broke all expected records, with the first season elevating the show to the channel’s hit series! At the peak of its popularity, it attracted about 11,000,000 American viewers weekly. The show ran for several seasons, airing for 12 years, and was broadcast in more than 100 countries worldwide.
A successful career
On Valentine’s Day 2007, Cesar officially established his non-profit foundation, The Millan Foundation. The foundation’s goal is to rescue and rehabilitate abused and abandoned dogs, promote their welfare by placing them in new homes and families, and establish and widely implement humane educational programs to teach the proper treatment and behavior with dogs.
The Millan Foundation has, since its creation, built lifelong healthy relationships between dogs and people through support provided to numerous non-profit animal shelters, developed and widely applies educational programs, organized and supported spay/neuter campaigns, and continuously performs emergency animal rescue through “The Daddy’s Emergency Animal Rescue Fund.”
Riding on the success of the “Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan” series, Cesar wrote several books, which also made it onto the New York Times bestseller list. In 2009, Millan launched a magazine in the USA and Canada called “Cesar’s Way,” which he used as editor-in-chief to educate people, with the goal of understanding dog behavior. The magazine also published articles about the relationship between dogs and people.
In February 2010, Cesar had to say goodbye to Daddy, the American pit bull terrier who was his companion and helper for sixteen years, and who played an important role in the “The Wonderful Dog Doc” series.
With a successful career and many valuable achievements behind him, Cesar released a documentary film that for the first time documented his life starting from his childhood spent in deep poverty, his illegal entry into the United States, all the way to becoming an international icon. The one-hour documentary titled “Cesar Millan: The Real Story” was premiered on the National Geographic Wild channel in November 2012.

New documentary series: Cesar Millan, the pack leader
Between 2012 and 2013, Millan appeared on the National Geographic Wild channel with a documentary series filmed at his latest Dog Psychology Center established in Miraflores de la Sierra, Spain. The "Cesar Millan, the pack leader" documentary series helped draw attention to the situation of abandoned dogs, from rescue and rehabilitation to finding a new family. At the start of the filming, Millan traveled to Spain to showcase the difficult situation of rescued dogs and to illustrate that a dog’s behavior does not depend on its breed, age, size, or background, but on the person handling the dog. "The goal of this series is to make the world realize how many dogs we lose each year by killing them, and how the world actually treats those who are called man's best friends. By becoming aware and recognizing what is really happening everywhere in the world, we can save the lives of millions of dogs while respecting their love."
In 2014, Millan launched a new concept series on the channel. The series aired in the United States under the title "Cesar 911," and outside America as "Cesar’s Recruit: Asia." Cesar Millan travels to Asia to find the best dog trainer in the region. He searches for a unique talent, someone who can become a local leader in his global missions, able to appropriately help desperate dog owners establish a harmonious relationship with their pets, thereby preventing abandonment! The series ran for 3 seasons, with Millan not only actively participating but also producing the series.
Cesar Millan’s principles in school education
In school education, he teaches young people to understand dogs’ thinking, the language of energy, and responsibility. His first book, Cesar’s Way, has been part of the school curriculum in California since 2008.
In 2017, in collaboration with the North Shore Animal League America and Pet Savers Foundations, as well as Yale University’s 21st Century School, they developed the Mutt-i-grees curriculum, which aims to educate on compassion and empathy, fostering children's balanced relationships with their environment, nature, family, and friends. The curriculum is a unique combination of social and emotional learning and humane education! Mutt-i-grees strives to provide learning opportunities that help growing children become confident adults who properly care for themselves, other people, and animals. This program is implemented across America and Canada’s 50 states, involving 100 animal shelters, 4000 schools, libraries, and after-school programs.
Cesar Millan Live – educating adults
Cesar believes: "There is no dog I cannot handle. I rehabilitate dogs, I train people." He sees the market gap for opportunities to educate about dog behavior. Cesar firmly believes that human behavior determines dog behavior, so he considers educating people about understanding dog behavior his mission.
Cesar Millan continuously travels the world, entertaining and educating audiences with live presentations. He has been to more than 30 countries, from Australia to New Zealand and Canada to the United States, and has also visited many countries in South America, as well as Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and numerous European countries. During his European tours in the winter of 2015 and spring of 2017, he also impressed the Hungarian audience with his entertaining show. In 2019, he will return again, accompanied by his sons, promising an exciting pre-family show—you can read more information about this below.
Inspiring the next generation
Cesar Millan’s two sons, Andre (1995) and Calvin (2001), carry on their father’s legacy!
In 2015, Cesar teamed up with Sid and Marty Krofft, Greek-Canadian television creators and puppeteers, to create a series for children. "Mutt & Stuff" targets preschoolers, a mix of live-action and puppet film series. The main characters are Cesar's younger son, Calvin, and a big yellow dog, Stuff. Calvin runs a special dog school where children are playfully taught together with real dogs and human-sized, big-headed puppets. The series follows Calvin and Stuff's daily activities at the "Mutt & Stuff" dog school. Alongside the adorable puppies and incredible dog tricks, the series equally features emotional and cheerful, entertaining elements that help preschoolers identify and manage emotions, develop interpersonal (communication between people) awareness and social skills. The show carries the message of pet adoption and responsible pet ownership and care based on Cesar Millan's philosophies. The series premiered in March 2015 but was regularly broadcast only from July 2015 on the Nick Junior channel.
In 2017, Cesar's older son, Andre Millan, joined his father in the series "Cesar Millan’s Dog Nation." According to the story, Cesar Millan and his son travel across America in an RV, starting from Washington and moving from city to city, with the mission to help dog lovers, families, and smaller communities, as well as to meet some great dog heroes and showcase nonprofit organizations that tirelessly rescue dogs daily throughout the States.
“It’s All About Family” Tour 2019
Over the past two decades, Cesar Millan has rehabilitated many dogs. Over the years, he has also been exemplary in how he raised his sons, Calvin and Andre. Drawing from his knowledge and years of experience, he created a brand new live show, "It’s All About Family." During the show, Millan shares his philosophy based on trust, respect, and love in an entertaining way with the audience, in which his sons also actively participate as guests. The Millan boys invite the audience on a truly intimate and entertaining journey while sharing previously untold, fascinating stories and personal memories from family life. They inspire dog lovers with informative and live dog demonstrations, teach practical matters through everyday situations, and provide useful explanations of dog behavior.
According to Cesar Millan, this tour is his best production to date. “I can hardly wait to present my live show "It’s All About Family" together with my sons in Europe,” he stated. “They say it takes a whole village to raise a child. For me, a pack of dogs helped raise my sons, and they have become such wonderful people! I am sure the world would be a better place if we learned from dogs how to become better humans!”
As you could already read in his biography, Cesar Millan rehabilitates aggressive, fearful, and neurotic dogs with more than 25 years of experience working with dogs behind him. Although he is basically a friendly person, he has earned a solid reputation as a determined professional in dog behavior and rehabilitation. The key to his success is mainly that he shows people the impact of their behavior and, more importantly, their energy on their pet.
With the help of the new show, we can find our own instincts and shake off the urban mindset. In this process, trust, respect, and love are the most important, as well as establishing a balanced life with our dog, since ultimately "this is the essence of the family".
Cesar Millan and his two sons will show all these to the viewers who attend his live performance on November 14, 2019, at the Papp László Budapest Sports Arena.
Important information:
