The Crufts Dog Show is one of the biggest dog events in the world. It is no longer just an exhibition; Crufts celebrates the role dogs play in our lives from every aspect.

This was unimaginable even in the Victorian era when the late Charles Cruft created this event. Although Charles Cruft was a great showman, Crufts was a completely different event back in 1891. Since then, the Crufts Dog Show has grown into one of the world’s largest dog events, which now appears as a key date on any dog lover’s calendar.

The dog show is still an important part of the event, celebrating the unique bond dogs share with their owners. Judges’ training ensures that only healthy dogs can win awards, encouraging the breeding of healthy dogs. But the event is much more than that.

Today, Crufts is more than just a dog show; Crufts is full of events and competitions celebrating man’s best friend’s talents. The ever-popular “Friends for Life” competition featuring hero dogs, the obstacle course, “Agility”, the relay race, “Flyball”, the obedience competition, “Obedience”, the freestyle musical competition, and “Heelwork to Music” captivate the audience. Moreover, for the 3rd year at Crufts Dog Show, not only purebred but also crossbred dogs can demonstrate their skills in agility competitions.

Since 1948, this grand event has been organized and hosted by The Kennel Club, the English dog breeding organization with a 142-year history. The program-packed Crufts Dog Show takes place from March 5 to 8, 2015, a four-day exhibition series (from Thursday to Sunday) held at the NEC event center in Birmingham. During the 4 days of the show, nearly 22,000 dogs arrive in the United Kingdom from all over the world.

Crufts is well known as the competition for the most beautiful dogs, but this is only part of this 4-day giant event. Let’s see how many interesting and special competitions and programs this grand event offers to participants and guests.

First, of course, are the show dogs that compete in the following seven groups for the event’s top prize, the large silver Best In Show trophy:

    • Gundog Group
    • Hound Group
    • Pastoral Group
    • Terrier Group
    • Toy Group
    • Utility Group
    • Working Group

The “Agility” competitions feature some notably agile and athletic dogs navigating obstacles.

The “Flyball” races are the relay race of the fastest dogs.

“Heelwork to Music,” the freestyle musical competition, featuring several music-loving dogs.

The various working dog demonstrations, such as police and hunting dogs, which are very interesting and spectacular.

The Scruffts competitions aim to find the most wonderful British crossbreed. In the Scruffts competitions, crossbred dogs can prove their skills and abilities in “Agility,” “Obedience,” and “Heelwork to Music” categories.

The “Pets as Therapy” annual competition for therapy dogs.

The “Young Kennel Club” and international Junior Handling competitions put children and young people in the spotlight.
This year, Baranyai Kata represents Hungary in the Junior Handling competition. We wish her much success and a top placement in the young handlers’ competition!

The „Discover Dogs” event in hall 3, where you can find more than 200 dog breeds and learn everything you need to know about the different breeds. You can talk to knowledgeable owners and breeders about the various breeds. You can get first-hand advice on grooming, training, and the breed itself. And of course, you can cuddle every dog in the hall.

The „Friend for Life” competition winner announcement based on audience votes. This is perhaps the most popular contest, as the stories of dogs who help mentally and physically disabled people through the greatest difficulties are simply wonderful.

And of course, the many vendors and their favored products and services, the shopping… which attracts a large number of participants, exhibitors, and guests.

Nearly 22,000 dogs are expected by the organizers to the Crufts Dog Show events at the NEC Centre between March 5 and 8, as well as about 160,000 participants, exhibitors, and guests.

„Crufts is a British institution that dog lovers must see. The show has grown year by year, and it is a great pleasure for us to welcome so many competitors from the United Kingdom as well as from all over the world in Birmingham at the NEC Events Centre this year as well” – says Caroline Kisko, secretary of the Kennel Club.

As always, the true international flavor of the event is provided by 2995 dogs coming from overseas, showing a 13% increase compared to last year when 2655 dogs participated from abroad. The participating dogs come from a total of 45 foreign countries to the Crufts Dog Show, including dogs from Brazil, Canada, and the Republic of Korea.

As you can see, Hungary is represented by 42 dogs at the Crufts Dog Show! We wish them and their owners, handlers much success, and may they enhance our country's reputation with many beautiful winning titles!

The diversity of Crufts is guaranteed by the continuous increase of the displayed breeds. This year, the Griffon Fauve de Bretagne and the Portuguese Pointer are also represented at the show, and the Hungarian Kuvasz will also participate for the first time.

„We are very pleased that the entries to Crufts remain strong and consistent. We feel truly honored to welcome so many breeds of dogs from all over the world together with their owners and handlers at this large-scale show. The fact that many people travel a long way for this prestigious event also demonstrates that the Crufts Dog Show continuously remains at the center of interest for dog lovers, regardless of whether the participant has been attending for many years or is visiting the show for the first time” – says Gerald King, president of Crufts.

„We are very proud to welcome at Crufts those dogs and people who are passionate about dog-related activities, whether it be showing, agility, flyball, obedience, or the freestyle musical competition. Crufts is an event that offers lots of fun and special experiences for dog lovers, inspiring new generations year after year to actively participate in activities with their own dogs” – said Caroline Kisko, secretary of the Kennel Club.

Finally, we show how a dog sees the Crufts Dog Show. Here it is:
