Organized by the MEOE Federation and the Hungarian Dog Breeds Committee, the Hungarian National Dog Breeds Special CAC exhibition will take place on January 7, 2017, starting from 9:00 AM. The venue of the exhibition is the "G" pavilion of the Hungexpo Exhibition and Leisure Center in Budapest.
Since 1999, the Hungarian Dog Breeds Committee has been organizing the National CAC Special exhibition annually at various locations across the country, serving as a national meeting for breeders/exhibitors of Hungarian dog breeds.
Our 9 Hungarian dog breeds, declared national treasures along with our national animal breeds by the Parliament's resolution on April 19, 2004.
Our herding dogs:

The Komondor – "One of the oldest Hungarian herding dog breeds, which has preserved its ancient traits in appearance and behavior through millennia. Its ancient variant arrived in the Carpathian Basin with the migrating, herding ancient Hungarians. Its large body, strength, and courage made it capable of fighting enemies of similar or larger size to protect the entrusted valuables. Today it increasingly serves to protect the house, farmstead, and economic yards."

The Kuvasz – "Its exact origin is unclear; it is assumed that during the migration period dogs very similar to today’s Kuvasz served our ancestors. The flock, herd, and cattle had to be continuously protected against predators and thieves. Due to its appearance and size, it is an imposing, lean, resistant dog breed. It repays care with interest. What it learns once, it never forgets."

The Puli – "The most famous Hungarian herding dog worldwide, kept and bred in many countries. The Puli is a graceful, quick-stepping, medium-sized dog, whose dense, curly coat reveals only its charming black nose."

The Pumi – "A dog blessed with great intelligence, a true clown. In the 17th–18th centuries, the terrier-type herding dog breeds of French origin that accompanied the merino sheep to our country crossed with the Puli, thus creating a dog with shorter hair than the Puli, playful, with pom-pom ears bent from the upper third. It inherited unmatched intelligence from the Puli with a good dose of the restless, lively nature of the terriers."

The Mudi – “This healthy, intelligent, attractive herding dog is not known by many even in Hungary. It is a herding dog with erect ears, wavy or curly coat, and short, smooth hair on its face and the front side of its legs. The Mudi has retained its excellent herding instinct, making it an ideal dog for professional shepherds as well as those interested in herding sports. Many other sports enthusiasts will not be disappointed if they choose a Mudi.”
Our hunting dogs:

The Short-haired Hungarian Vizsla – “Looks at the world with a kind, warm brown eye and a mischievous cheekiness, with eager attention and longing for the game. Lazily stretches out at home next to the hot stove or on the couch, endlessly craving petting, but can in an instant be an explosion of energy and endless running in the field under the blazing sun or crunchy snow. From this follow two basic qualities: adaptability and easy trainability. Thanks to these, it has more and more admirers worldwide.”

The Wire-haired Hungarian Vizsla – “The history of the Wire-haired Hungarian Vizsla began 70 years ago. The breed was created by crossing the Short-haired Hungarian Vizsla with the Wire-haired German Vizsla under strict selection. Thanks to its coat, it is very resilient, highly intelligent, easy to train and discipline, but it does not tolerate rough treatment or harsh training.”

The Transylvanian Hound – “It was an indispensable, well-established resident of the Hungarian royal and Transylvanian princely courts. Its history over the centuries is closely intertwined with Hungarian history, particularly with the fate and everyday life of the Hungarian nobility. The drooping ears, sickle-shaped tail, and typically rectangular body characteristic of hounds are clearly visible on the Transylvanian Hound.”

The Magyar Agár – “The sighthounds are the oldest dog breeds, the oldest companions of humans. They helped people in everyday livelihood providing hunting and took care of the family’s protection. The history of the Magyar Agár dates back to the conquest era. As a resilient breed, sighthounds easily and well adapted to the changed conditions of today’s modern world.”
An everlasting quote addressing today’s and future generations of dog lovers:
“Only that nation has a future, which respects itself,
Only that nation respects itself, which honors its values,
Let us love and cherish the Hungarian Dog.”
