The MEOE Miskolc Independent Organization has a long tradition in organizing dog shows, as since crossing into the 2000s, it has almost every year received the right from the parent organization to hold national or international dog shows.
Looking back at the international shows, the Organization held 2 x CACIB international shows in 2008 and 2010, which continued under the name “Marathon Dog Show” in 2012, 2013, and 2015 and was expanded by + one “Holdvilág” CAC national dog show. Thus, during the two days, exhibitors and visitors could participate in 2 international CACIB and 1 national CAC dog shows.
The MEOE Miskolc Independent Organization, with a 62-year history, places great emphasis on puppy and early socialization in its well-functioning dog school, therefore within the dog school as a first step there is kindergarten for baby and puppy-aged dogs and their owners, who can participate first in socialization training. At the dog school named “Az ÉN Kutyaiskolám” operating on the territory of the former Stromfeld barracks, work and hobby dog training is provided under the leadership of renowned master trainers. Young and adult dogs can participate in various trainings with their owners, including obedience, companion dog, and sit training, and for those preparing for shows, special ring training preparation is also conducted. The leadership of MEOE Miskolc Independent Organization and the master dog trainers warmly welcome dogs and owners eager to learn to various courses of “Az ÉN Kutyaiskolám” in the future.

The city of the Marathon Dog Show is Miskolc, which is the seat of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county and the third largest city in Hungary, as well as the cultural and economic center of the county. The city lies embedded on the eastern side of the Bükk Mountains in the valleys of three rivers; it owes its exceptional natural beauty to this wonderful location.
According to archaeological findings, the area has been inhabited since ancient times and is currently recorded as the oldest inhabited area in Hungary. It was an important trading town even in the Middle Ages, and after the Turkish occupation its industry began to develop. From the 1900s onward, the city prospered, aiming to become the major city of the region independently, a center for industry, commerce, finance, and culture. During the socialist era, Miskolc became a stronghold of heavy industry. In the years following the regime change, the emphasis in the city shifted to culture and tourism.
Among the most significant sights in the downtown area are the Town Hall built in a romantic style, the Saint Stephen statue surrounded by a wonderful flowery area, Erzsébet Square with the Erzsébet Bath, Népkert with its fabulous promenade where the Sculpture Park is located, including the statue of Queen Elizabeth. Other sights and monuments include the Avasi Reformed Church built in Romanesque style, the Greek Orthodox Church built in copf style, the Hungarian Orthodox Church Museum presenting the history and heritage of the Greek Orthodox Church, the Wooden Church, and the Miskolc National Theatre building enriched with romantic elements in late classicist style.
In the surroundings of the city, Miskolctapolca, Diósgyőr, and Lillafüred offer numerous attractions.
In Miskolctapolca, which belongs to the city, there is the fabulous cave bath, one of the most atmospheric and romantic places in the city. The thermal bath is very popular among locals and tourists alike, as the bath, spread over the cave system and outdoor area, is an ideal choice in every season, whether for romantic relaxation, family holidays, or night bathing.
In historic Diósgyőr stands the Gothic castle that was a bridal gift for queens for centuries. The Diósgyőr Castle, built in the 15th century, reached its heyday during the reign of King Louis the Great and today is one of the country's most significant monuments. The ruins and restored buildings of the medieval castle themselves are considered a living museum.
The 2500 sqm palace once included about 50 rooms, of which the four tall towers and the ground floors of the connecting wings, as well as some upper floor ruins, still stand. Inside the castle, visitors can see a castle history and weapon exhibition, wax figures of King Louis the Great and the Venetian envoy, a panopticon, and a mint. The castle is mainly worth visiting in summer when castle games entertain visitors, transporting them back to the era of the Sun King.
The surroundings of the city also attract nature lovers; Miskolc includes one of the country's most beautiful natural areas, Lillafüred. Visitors can admire natural treasures such as the Lillafüred waterfall, one of the few waterfalls in Hungary.
Among the city's natural attractions is the Avasi Arboretum located within Miskolc. Its development and planting of plant species began in 1986. Of the 6 hectares area, currently, a 1.5-hectare park section planted with pines and evergreens is open to visitors, where orientation is aided by signs placed by the park maintainers. The Avasi Arboretum hosts the richest conifer collection in Hungary with nearly 1000 specimens of 600 plant species for study. The collection is especially rich in Hungarian-bred pine species. The arboretum houses 12 types of cedars, 36 types of firs, 39 types of spruces, 55 types of pine with needle bundles, 9 types of redwoods, 136 types of false cypresses, 173 types of junipers, 37 types of yews, and 96 types of thuja. The planting of deciduous trees has also begun on a new 4.5-hectare area.
The Miskolc Zoo and Cultural Park, located in a wonderful forest environment in the Csanyik Valley, is one of the youngest yet oldest traditional institutions in the country. Written records prove that a royal game reserve operated in this area as early as 1355, established under the name of King Louis the Great.
In the Zoo, nearly 700 individuals of more than 300 animal species from 5 continents can be seen in environments similar to their natural habitats. Besides native animal species, here you can see one of Central Europe's largest wolf packs, as well as many birds, large game animals, and predators. The Zoo's area neighbors the Bükk National Park, giving visitors a taste of its rich flora.
The special feature of the zoo is the nature conservation sculpture park. It commemorates those European natural scientists who were key figures in the development of modern zoo culture; and with the life-sized, bronze statues of extinct animal species, it draws attention to the irreversible damage humans can cause to nature. The Zoo always welcomes visitors with colorful events, from which every age group can find diverse programs.
The city day of Miskolc is celebrated every year on May 11th, when the city blossoms, decorating its squares, parks, and streets with more than 100,000 annual flowers.

The wonderfully beautiful Flower Clock located at Saint Stephen’s Square also reaches its final form by this time, so that it can shine in its uniquely fabulous shape on the city day.
“The city where it’s good to live, where something is always happening, where visitors always find an experience, where competitions can be held on Europe’s longest main street, where many come and where many more could come. Miskolc, a city worth visiting and getting to know more closely.”
The MEOE Miskolc Independent Organization warmly welcomes all interested parties, guests, exhibitors with their dogs to the Marathon Dog Show on May 13th and 14th!
