The World Dog Show this year will welcome the most beautiful dogs in Moscow between June 23 and 26. The world event coincides with the 25th anniversary of the host of the exhibition, the Russian Kynological Federation. The RKF celebrates all this with a grand 4-day show, hoping that the WDS will be memorable for dog lovers all over the world.
The Russian Kynological Federation was honored in 2011 at the FCI Centenary World Exhibition held in Paris, during the FCI general assembly, to win the right to host the World Dog Show by vote.
"According to our plans, the World Dog Show held on the 25th anniversary of our Federation will be the most significant event in Russian cynology, grand and completely unique in style." – stated Alexander Inshakov, president of the RKF.
The Russian Kynological Federation and its work
The Russian Kynological Federation, the RKF (Russian Kynological Federation) was founded in 1991. It united then separately operating hobby, working, hunting dog... etc. departments into one large organization that functions as an umbrella organization in Russia just like the MEOE Federation does in our country. The RKF became an associate member of the FCI in 1995, and then a full member at the FCI congress held in Dortmund, Germany in May 2003.
The RKF is the largest kynological society in Russia, with more than 7 million dogs registered in its studbook, and over 1600 exhibitions and championships held annually.
Russian cynological life is very active, as evidenced by the fact that 1/6 of exhibitors at the major World and European exhibitions are of Russian origin.
The largest Russian Dog Show: the "Eurasia"
Among Russian exhibitions, the "Eurasia" show stands out, which registers 12,000 entries annually, about 6,000 of which are exhibitors from Russia. For guests, the "Eurasia" show is an incredible sight, where the most unusual and rarely seen dog breeds can be admired, while numerous competitions and demonstrations take place in the main ring, where many participants contribute to showcasing the special abilities of dogs.
Dogs receive a multitude of winner titles and awards during "Eurasia", often surpassing the heights of the European and World Exhibitions.
The dream and aspiration of RKF for the future is for the "Eurasia" show to become the world's largest exhibition on earth, so since 2005, the show has been moved to a more modern and larger capacity exhibition center.

World Dog Show competitions, championships
While the best of various breeds compete against each other in 10 breed groups, the general public can also see numerous interesting dog sports and other competitions and shows in many rings. During the World Exhibition, the INTERRA World Championship, the Obedience World Championship, the Dog Dance and Freestyle World Championships, the international Flyball relay race, and the Junior Handlers competition will be held.
Within the framework of the WDS, for the second time in Russia, the Terrier show, the INTERRA World Championship, will be held. The first INTERRA show welcomed competitors from 21 countries in 2007. In the country, INTERRA 2016 has long been an eagerly awaited event for every Terrier expert and enthusiast, with more than 1,500 beautiful dogs from 36 terrier breeds participating in the championship.
The Junior Handling, the youth competition, will be held. The aim of this competition is to increase the interest of the future generation in dog-related activities, to promote and develop the relationship of children and young people with dogs, and cooperation with dogs.
Between June 23 and 26, the Dog Dance and Freestyle World Championship will also take place. More than 80 dogs and competitors from over 10 countries will participate in the competitions in order to score points both individually and as teams.
Experts known and experienced from the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Finland, and the Netherlands are on the judging panel. The first 3 days will feature team competitions, while the last day will host the BIS, where the top 10 Dog Dance pairs will be selected from the World Champions.
More than 100 dogs will compete with their owners for the World Championship title in the Obedience World Championship, both individually and as teams.
On the last day of the WDS, the 20 most skilled competitors will be selected. The chief judge of the championship is Mrs. Carina Savander-Ranne from Finland, the delegate of the FCI obedience committee.
International Flyball is a true relay-style competition. Four dogs compete per team against each other in an elimination format. Every dog jumps over four obstacles, then steps on a box which releases the ball.
The dog then returns the ball to the starting point; when the dog returns, the next dog can start and it continues like this until all dogs finish the run. Two teams compete simultaneously in parallel races. If any dog makes a mistake, steps off the "race lane," or drops the ball, points will be deducted from the team's performance.
In the main ring every day, visitors await spectacular shows such as the presentation of Russian dog breeds in Russian style, police dog demonstrations, dog sports shows, dog frisbee, and as a novelty, dog football and a dog fashion show are also part of the program for participants to enjoy.
We introduce the World Dog Show city, Moscow
The capital of Russia and the WDS city, a dynamically developing metropolis with well-developed infrastructure allowing the organization of large-scale events. In the heart of Moscow, one can find famous landmarks such as the Bolshoi Theatre, Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, Pushkin Square, and of course the open-air Kremlin Museum, which served as the primary residence for the Russian governor and patriarchs in old times. The Kremlin is also Russia's national treasure, listed among UNESCO’s national cultural heritage sites.
Moscow is a very friendly city, Russia's largest connection and transport hub. Its 4 airports and 9 major railway networks ensure transportation for travelers to cities worldwide. Sheremetyevo and Domodedovo airports are combined air hub points in Europe, located close to the city. Both airports handle large passenger and cargo traffic to cities around Europe and the Pacific region, with over 50,000,000 passengers traveling annually.
Venue: Crocus Expo
The World Dog Show will be held in the event halls of Crocus Expo, Russia’s largest international exhibition center. Crocus Expo is currently one of the largest and most prestigious exhibition and event centers in the world, with nearly 700,000 square meters of indoor space in its spacious halls, where 100 rings are set up.
The Expo parking lot can accommodate 25,000 cars, plus an additional 3,000 cars can park in the underground garage. Crocus Expo’s specific technical parameters enable the center to meet the most special requirements; the area features hotels, restaurants, cafes, and a useful dog walking area has also been created. Crocus Expo is easily accessible by any means of transport, close to the metro and bus station.
The RKF welcomes WDS guests
The World Show host welcomes guests arriving from all over the world to the exhibition and will do everything possible to ensure a grand World Dog Show based on the traditions of Russian hospitality.
“In our jubilee year, we eagerly await the world cynological communities in Moscow for the World Dog Show. We can promise four unforgettable days for dog lovers with the participation of 25,000 dogs.” – with these words, the president of the RKF, Alexander Inshakov, launches the World Dog Show.
We wish accident-free travel to Moscow, good luck, pleasant days, and great results to the dogs representing Hungary, their owners, and handlers!
