Hungarian National Dog Breeds Special CAC Exhibition – Budapest – December 2, 2017

Author: Vámosi Ildikó | Published: 10/9/2017 | Category: Dog shows in Hungary

Organized by the MEOE Association and the Hungarian Dog Breeds Committee, the Hungarian National Dog Breeds Special CAC exhibition will take place on December 02, 2017, starting at 09:00 in the morning. The venue of the exhibition is the “A” pavilion of the Hungexpo Event and Leisure Center in Budapest.

Since 1999, the Hungarian Dog Breeds Committee annually organizes the National CAC Special exhibition at various locations around the country, the national meeting of Hungarian Dog Breed breeders/exhibitors.

The 9 Hungarian Dog Breeds, which were declared a national treasure together with our national animal breeds by the Parliament in its resolution of April 19, 2004.

Our Shepherd Dogs:

komondor

The Komondor“One of the oldest Hungarian shepherd dog breeds, which has preserved its millennia-old traits in appearance and behavior. Its ancient form came to the Carpathian Basin with the migrating, herding ancient Hungarians. Its large body, strength, and courage made it suitable to fight against enemies of similar or larger size to protect the entrusted valuables. Today, it increasingly serves to protect the house, the farmstead, and the farmyards.”

kuvasz

The Kuvasz“Its precise origin is shrouded in mystery; it is assumed that dogs very similar to today’s Kuvasz served our ancestors already during the migration period. The herd, the stud, and the cattle had to be continuously protected against predators and thieves. Its appearance and size make it an impressive, lean, and resilient dog breed. It generously rewards care. What it has learned once, it never forgets.”

puli

The Puli“The most well-known Hungarian herding shepherd dog worldwide, kept and bred in many countries. The Puli is a graceful, quick-stepping, medium-sized dog whose dense, curly coat reveals only its charming black nose.”

pumik

The Pumi“A true clown endowed with great intelligence. In the 17th–18th centuries, the French-origin terrier-type herding breeds accompanying the merino sheep into our country crossed with the Puli, thus creating a dog with shorter hair than the Puli, playful, with pom-pom ears that bend from the upper third. It inherited a good portion of the Puli’s unmatched intelligence combined with the restless, lively nature of terriers.”

mudi

The Mudi"Even in Hungary, not many know this healthy, intelligent, attractive herding dog. A dog with erect ears, wavy or curly coat, with short, smooth hair on its face and the front side of its legs. The Mudi has preserved its excellent herding instinct, making it an ideal dog for professional shepherds as well as those interested in herding sports. Many enthusiasts of other sports also do not regret choosing a Mudi for themselves."

Our hunting dogs:

rövid szőrű magyar vizsla

The Short-haired Hungarian Vizsla"It looks at the world with kind, warm brown eyes and a mischievous charm, with eager attention and longing for the game. Lazily stretched out at home by the hot stove or on the couch, endlessly craving petting, but in an instant it bursts with energy, running endlessly in the field in the blazing sunshine or crunchy snow. From this come two fundamental qualities: adaptability and ease of training. Thanks to these, it has more and more admirers worldwide."

drótszőrű magyar vizsla

The Wire-haired Hungarian Vizsla"The history of the Wire-haired Hungarian Vizsla began 70 years ago. The breed was created through crossbreeding the Short-haired Hungarian Vizsla and the Wire-haired German Vizsla with strict selection. Thanks to its coat, it is very resilient, extremely intelligent, easy to train and discipline, but it does not tolerate rough treatment or harsh training."

erdélyi kopó

The Transylvanian Hound"It was an indispensable, well-established resident of the Hungarian royal and Transylvanian princely courts. Its history has been closely intertwined with Hungarian history over the centuries, especially with the fate and daily life of the Hungarian nobility. The Transylvanian Hound clearly shows the characteristic hound features: drooping ears, sickle-shaped tail, and a body typically enclosed in a rectangular shape."

Magyar Agár

The Magyar Agár"Sighthounds are the oldest dog breeds, the oldest companions of humans. They helped people in the daily livelihood-providing hunt and took care of the family’s protection. The history of the Magyar Agár can be traced back to the era of the Hungarian conquest. As a hardy breed, sighthounds easily and well adapted to the changed circumstances of today's modern world."

An evergreen quote addressing today's and future dog-loving generations:

"Only a nation that values itself has a future,
Only that nation values itself which appreciates its values,
Let us love and respect the Hungarian Dog."
