Organized by the Hírös Hungarian Dog Breeders' Independent Association, we can participate in a 2 x CACIB international dog show on September 22 and 23, 2018 in the village of Jakabszállás, located 17 kilometers from Kecskemét. Exact location: the Sports Airfield on the grounds of the Aero Hotel.
The organizing Association, the Hírös Hungarian Dog Breeders' Independent Association
Reviewing from the early 2000s, organizing dog shows has already become a tradition in the life of the Kecskemét Dog Breeders' Association. The Association held a double CACIB show for many years. After a few years of pause, the show was held again as a CAC show in 2008, 2010, 2013, and 2015. In 2014 and 2016, the traditional show, usually held in early September, returned in the form of 2 x 1-day international dog shows. In 2017, the Association earned the right from the MEOE Federation to organize a double CAC show. This year again, 2 international dog shows were organized thanks to the Hírös Hungarian Dog Breeders' Independent Association! We wish them much success!

Introducing the dog show venue, Jakabszállás
The venue of the CAC dog show is the village of Jakabszállás, located 17 km southwest of Kecskemét.
The settlement has been inhabited since the Árpád era, but was depopulated during the Turkish occupation, and its area became a wasteland. For much of the 18th and 19th centuries, half of the wasteland belonged to Szabadszállás, and a quarter each to Kiskunmajsa and Fülöpszállás. Today's village encompasses the former Szabadszállás area.
The main occupation until 1895 was shepherding. Upon the distribution of the wasteland, on plots ranging from 20 to 60 acres, people gradually shifted to agriculture, which accelerated population growth, and serfs from the owner villages acquired land here.
Jakabszállás became an independent village in 1922 under the name Szabadjakabszállás, and received its current name in 1926.
After gaining independence, the town hall and a chapel were built, which are cared for by the Franciscan monks. The Roman Catholic church was completed in 1944 and can be seen at the intersection of main road 54 and the road leading to Kiskunhalas. The Reformed church was built much later, in the early 1960s. In the memorial park in the cemetery, the names of residents who died heroically in the First and Second World Wars, as well as in 1956, are immortalized on a memorial wall. In the center of the village, the enamel spatial sculpture by sculptor Endre Túri can be seen.
The narrow-gauge agricultural railway of Kecskemét was built in 1928, and the roads crossing the settlement were completed between 1939-42, significantly reducing isolation. In recent times, aviation has also conquered Jakabszállás. Its grass airfield began operating in 1994, and in 2000 a paved runway was built. In 2009, a horse track opened next to the airport, where an invitational carriage driving competition is held every year on Pentecost Sunday. Furthermore, a harvest festival is organized every first Saturday of September.
The 1:1000 scale relief and hydrographic model of Hungary was created in Jakabszállás. The Little Hungary Botanical Garden is a collection garden of 3,200 plants on 93,000 square meters, an integrated adventure park, a meeting place for creative artists, and a wonderful eco-recreation for visiting guests.
In the garden, each of Hungary's 3,200 settlements is marked by a plant, making it the most diverse collection botanical garden in the country. For its formation, 1,200 cubic meters of stone and gravel, 22,000 square meters of geotextile, 8,000 square meters of pond liner, several tons of grass seed, 140,000 seedling saplings were used, simultaneously creating 12 kilometers of new hiking trails, a 35 km irrigation system, 79,000 square meters of lawn, and eight wells, as well as 10,000 aquatic plants found a home in the botanical garden.
Nearby, a similarly 1:1000 scale, 125 meters long, 17 meters wide, and 8.8 meters high sledding hill was built, modeled after the Himalayas; inside the hill is a warming hut that can accommodate 70 people.
When visiting Jakabszállás, the city of Kecskemét is also worth a visit. The “famous city” combines historical traditions with modern ambitions. Its beautiful public buildings tell tales of past centuries, and its museums and galleries hold significant cultural value.
One of the most beautiful city centers in the country can be seen in Kecskemét, where a series of notable buildings greet visitors. First is the Art Nouveau style Town Hall building decorated with majolica ornaments, on whose facade the bells play Kodály's Viennese bell play, and the ceremonial hall is adorned with murals by Bertalan Székely. The Cifrapalota building, embellished with colorful floral decorations and evoking the world of Hungarian folk tales, combines the favorite motifs of Art Nouveau into a striking unity in its ceremonial hall. Today, this building houses the city’s art gallery, which contains a valuable collection of 19th and 20th-century Hungarian painting.
The defining building of the Main Square is the Great Church, the largest copf-style cathedral in the Great Plain. Opposite the Town Hall stands the oldest architectural monument of Kecskemét, the Franciscan Church. The monastery connected to the church was built by the Franciscans and today houses the Kodály Zoltán Music Pedagogical Institute, on the ground floor of which there is a permanent exhibition showcasing the life of the famous composer. Zoltán Kodály’s name is inseparably linked with the city. At the Zoltán Kodály Singing and Music School, students are taught according to the world-famous Kodály method.
Among Kecskemét's famous natives, besides Zoltán Kodály, we must also mention the playwright József Katona, whose name is preserved by the József Katona Theater, and the poet Sándor Petőfi, who lived and worked in this city from 1828 to 1830.
Other Art Nouveau historic buildings in the city include the Old Church, also known as the Great Church, which for a long time was a model for churches in the Great Plain. The Lutheran Church, designed by Miklós Ybl and built in a romantic style. A significant part of the cityscape is the Reformed Church, featuring several architectural styles, as well as the Moorish-style former synagogue with the onion dome tower.
Among its sights, we must highlight the Kecskemét Game Park, which is territorially the smallest zoo in the country. It was established in 1971, primarily for showcasing native wildlife and indigenous Hungarian domestic animals. The former species composition has now significantly expanded, and thus with the wonderful specimens of 110 species and 400 individuals, all continents of the world are represented. The goal of the Kecskemét Game Park is the preservation and enhancement of the existing natural values.
Among the city's natural sights, the magnificent Kecskemét Arboretum, rich in natural beauty, stands out. In the 62-hectare area of the collection garden, more than 900 different plant species and their varieties can be found. The Arboretum, with its significant plant collection, is a prominent element of Kecskemét's green areas. In the young plant collection, today we can rest in the shade of, among others, tulip trees, magnolia trees, giant sequoias, oaks, and rubber trees. The youngest part of the arboretum is the oak collection, which on 16 hectares presents oak types that withstand dry conditions from Hungary and some foreign countries. Besides the nature trails, the arboretum welcomes visitors with a species playground, lookout tower, shelters, and a pergola.
