The location of the International Dog Shows is the city of Komárom, which lies on the eastern edge of the Little Hungarian Plain and on the right bank of the Danube, with a population of nearly 20,000 inhabitants. Komárom is a busy border town, as well as a cultural and tourist center, and thanks to its excellent location, it was already a significant economic and strategic center of our small country in the distant past. The life of the area was organized around the Komárom fortress system. The Treaty of Trianon rearranged the city’s borders along with the change of the national border. One part of the divided city remains within the borders of Hungary, while the other part is still located in Slovakia.

Among Komárom’s sights, the most significant are the Reformed Church located in the city center, the Roman Catholic Church, the Turul statue, and the Komárom Spa, whose special feature is the mineral-rich healing water, which springs from a depth of 1268 meters.

The western part of the city is famous for its natural beauties, here you can find the WF Leisure Park, which offers numerous recreational opportunities to visitors in a picturesque environment. The Leisure Park hosts outdoor concerts, festivals, full-day family programs, exhibitions, and competitions.

A significant tourist attraction of the city is the Komárom fortress system, whose Hungarian members are the Monostori Fortress, the Igmándi Fortress, and the Star Fortress. The Klapka György Museum is located in the Igmándi Fortress, whose permanent exhibitions include outstanding displays such as the Roman Stone Collection and the history of the Hungarian Navy.

The Monostori Fortress – which also serves as the venue for the international dog show – is the largest modern fortress in Central Europe, built between 1850 and 1871. During the construction of the Monostori Fortress, the most advanced architectural techniques of the era were applied, but by the time of completion, it became militarily outdated. Its military function has long ceased; nowadays it serves as a tourist attraction and the venue for various programs.

You can watch the more detailed history of the Komárom fortress system in the following video:

On September 23, 2017, everyone interested, guests, and exhibitors with their dogs are warmly welcomed to Komárom, to the Monostori Fortress for the Club Show Weekend!
