Organized by the Karcag Independent Organization of the Hungarian National Association of Dog Breeders, on October 7, 2017, we can participate in a CAC dog show for all breeds in Karcag. The venue of the CAC dog show is Liget Street, located in the downtown area of Karcag, in Zuglóger.
The most well-functioning dog breeding organization of the Kunság region, the Karcag Independent Organization was established in 1971. In the years following its establishment, its membership continuously expanded, and the Organization improved year by year. Soon, it became necessary to set up a dog school with skilled dog trainers and instructors. The dog school has been operating successfully for many years and is now considered the best-equipped school in the region.
At the end of 2008, the Association restructured with a rejuvenated, new board and began working with a new spirit and youthful energy. Among the Organization’s goals is to involve the future dog-using generation in dog-related programs from childhood, to popularize dog ownership among young people, to acquaint them with the colorful world of dogs and shows, breeding, passing on the knowledge they possess, thereby nurturing the future dog-using generation.
In 2010, the Organization held a successful CAC dog show and, a few weeks later, also organized a Local Dog exhibition, providing an opportunity for dog lovers to present purebred dogs without pedigrees as well as mixed-breed dogs. This Local Dog exhibition is held every summer under the Organization’s guidance, enriched by dog demonstrations, and both purebred dogs without pedigrees and mixed breeds are judged.
Thanks to the successful 2010 CAC dog show, the Organization also held CAC shows in 2012 and 2014. Last year, it won the right again to organize a national dog show after a three-year break. We wish them much success in this!

The city of the CAC dog show is Karcag, which currently has a population of 23,000 and is considered the capital of Nagykunság. Due to its location, cultural, commercial, health, educational, and economic roles, it became the center of the region. Karcag is a characteristic Great Plain market town, evident in its settlement form, multitude of institutions, and external relations.
Its historical past dates back to the Mongol devastation of the 13th century, when the Cumans who settled here founded the town. After settling in Hungary, the Cumans converted to Christianity and integrated into Hungarian society, but as a privileged people, they served the kings with arms. Over time, they became Hungarian, but some elements of their ancient language and culture still live on today.
Karcag's vast territory developed during the Turkish occupation by absorbing the remaining population and territory of the destroyed small villages. That is why the Karcag region is also called Hatkunság, as only six settlements were revived in the 18th century. Their lifestyle was characterized by grazing livestock on the plains and scattered farm agriculture. This production structure gave Karcag its market town status for centuries.
Looking back at the history of the Cumans, we can see a kind of primal power and solidarity that helped the Cuman ancestors both in stormy and peaceful times. This solidarity continues to this day and helps the descendants of the Cumans preserve their traditions. The former customs are revived by the Cuman World Meeting held every three years, including the election of the Cuman Captain.
Karcag is the southern gateway to the Hortobágy National Park. The sight of the Great Plain, the mysterious cones of the Cuman mounds, the windmill, and the dry five-hole Zádor bridge offer pleasant excursions, while the thermal bath and swimming pool in Karcag provide rest and healing for visitors interested in Karcag.
There are also further nature reserves around the city, such as Kecskeri-puszta, whose untouched flora and fauna offer a true experience to visiting tourists, as well as the Cuman Mounds found in Nagykunság, which recall the presence of the Cumans. The farms and well pumps still found in the vast territory evoke bygone times.
The city of Karcag plays a central role in the life of Nagykunság, thanks to its various institutional networks satisfying the healthcare, educational, and commercial needs of the large local population and residents of surrounding settlements.
The memory of the Cuman ancestors is recalled by the Cuman Memorial Site and the Nagykun Millennium Monument. One of the most interesting stops on the thematic route called “In the Footsteps of the Jászkun Captains” is the Nagykun Visitor Center and its attraction spaces. The permanent exhibition titled “Heritage of the Cumans” at the Györffy István Nagykun Museum presents the centuries-old history and lifestyle of the Cumans. The protected stone grinder, the mill history exhibition, and the historic windmill are curiosities. The Medical History and Pharmacy Exhibition features an over one hundred-year-old original pharmacy interior and a collection showcasing the life of Gábor Kátai, a pharmacist from Karcag.
Karcag is also significant for its artistic life, especially famous for its pottery. The Kossuth Prize-winning Sándor Kántor lived and worked here, and today the potter's wheel still turns in several workshops. Karcag is also home to the Munkácsy Prize-winning sculptor Sándor Györfi, whose bronze public sculptures adorn many towns. The Karcag Symphony Orchestra, Salon Orchestra, City Choir, and String Chamber Orchestra also contribute to making the colorful musical life fuller.
Visitors coming here can participate in numerous events featuring many Karcag specialties, such as the nationally renowned Karcag Mutton Cooking Competition, the Nagykunság Cultural Days event series linked to August 20 festivities, and the two-day Karcag Equestrian Days, which serve to uphold equestrian traditions.
All interested parties, guests, and exhibitors with their dogs are warmly welcomed by the Hungarian Dog Breeders National Association Karcag Independent Organization with a high-quality CAC dog show in early October!
