Organized by the MEOE Association and the Hungarian Dog Breeds Specialist Committee, the Hungarian National Dog Breeds Special CAC exhibition will take place on December 01, 2018, starting from 9:00 AM. The venue of the exhibition is the “G” pavilion of the Hungexpo Event and Leisure Center in Budapest.

Since 1999, the Hungarian Dog Breeds Specialist Committee has been holding the National CAC Special exhibition annually at various locations across the country, a national meeting for breeders/exhibitors of Hungarian dog breeds.

Our 9 Hungarian dog breeds, which were declared national treasures along with our national animal breeds by the Parliament's resolution on April 19, 2004.

Our shepherd dogs:

komondor

The Komondor“One of the oldest Hungarian shepherd dog breeds, which has preserved its millennia-old characteristics in appearance and behavior. Its ancient form arrived in the Carpathian Basin with the wandering, herding ancient Hungarians. Its large body, strength, and courage made it suitable to fight enemies of similar or larger size in defense of the entrusted valuables. Today it increasingly serves to protect the house, farmstead, and economic yards.”

kuvasz

The Kuvasz“Its exact origin is obscure; it is presumed that dogs very similar to today's Kuvasz served our ancestors during the Migration Period. The flock, herd, and cattle had to be continuously protected against predators and thieves. Due to its appearance and size, it is an impressive, lean, resilient dog breed. It richly repays the care it receives. What it has learned once, it never forgets.”

The Puli“The most famous Hungarian herding shepherd dog worldwide, kept and bred in many countries. The Puli is a graceful, quick-stepping, medium-sized dog whose dense, curly coat reveals only its charming black nose.”

The Pumi“A clever, playful breed blessed with great intelligence. In the 17th–18th centuries, terrier-like herding dog breeds of French origin accompanying the Merino sheep to our country crossbred with the Puli, resulting in a dog with a shorter coat than the Puli, playful, with ears bent at the top third resembling pom-poms. It inherited a good portion of the Puli’s unrivaled intelligence combined with the restless, lively nature of terriers.”

mudi

The Mudi"Not many even in Hungary know this healthy, intelligent, attractive looking herding dog. A herding dog with erect ears, wavy or curly coat, with short, smooth hair on its face and the front side of its legs. The mudi has preserved its excellent herding instinct, so it is an ideal dog for professional shepherds as well as for those interested in herding sports. Many other sports enthusiasts will not be disappointed if they choose a mudi for themselves."

Our hunting dogs:

magyar vizsla

The Short-haired Hungarian Vizsla"Looks at the world with kind, warm brown eyes and mischievous cheekiness, with eager attention and longing for the game. Lazily stretches out at home beside the warm stove or on the couch, endlessly yearning for petting, but in a moment bursts with energy, endless galloping in the field under the blazing sun or in the crackling snow. From this come two fundamental qualities: adaptability and easy trainability. Thanks to these, it has more and more fans worldwide."

drotsz. magyar vizsla

The Wire-haired Hungarian Vizsla"The history of the Wire-haired Hungarian Vizsla began 70 years ago. The breed was created by crossing the Short-haired Hungarian Vizsla and the Wire-haired German Vizsla under strict selection. Thanks to its coat, it is very resistant, extremely intelligent, easily trainable and disciplined, but does not tolerate rough treatment or harsh training."

erdelyi kopo

The Transylvanian Hound"Was an indispensable, well-known resident of the Hungarian royal and Transylvanian princely courts. Its history has been closely intertwined with Hungarian history over the centuries, especially with the fate and daily life of the Hungarian nobility. In the Transylvanian Hound, the hanging ears, sickle-shaped tail, and a body typically enclosed in a rectangle can be clearly seen, indicating its hound nature."

magyar agar

The Hungarian Greyhound“Greyhounds are the oldest dog breeds, the earliest companions of humans. They helped people in daily subsistence hunting and took care of the protection of the family. The history of the Hungarian Greyhound can be traced back to the time of the conquest of the homeland. As a resilient breed, greyhounds easily and well adapted to the changed conditions of today's modern world.”

An eternal quote addressed to today's and the future generations of dog lovers:

“Only that nation has a future which values itself,
Only that nation values itself which values its values,
Let us love and appreciate the Hungarian Dog.”
