Thanks to the MEOE Székesfehérvár Independent Organization, we can participate in 2 x CAC national dog shows on June 9 and 10, 2018. The venue for the 2 x CACIB international dog show this year is the greyhound track located on the shore of Lake Velence.

Thanks to the MEOE Székesfehérvár Independent Organization, we can participate in 2 x CAC national dog shows on June 9th and 10th, 2018. The venue for the 2 x CACIB international dog show this year is again the Agárd free beach area located on the shore of Lake Velence.

The organizing Association, the MEOE Székesfehérvár Independent Organization

The leadership of the MEOE Székesfehérvár Independent Organization consists of breeders and working dog handlers, and together they also work to involve younger generations in dog activities from childhood, to familiarize children with responsible animal love and care. The Organization’s dog school is one of the best resources for this, where dog-loving families, people, and children meet and learn together with their dogs. The Dog School assists dog owners with behavioral, socialization, and obedience training, teaching the school’s students to care for dogs with love and patience. In addition, there is protection and guard dog training, preparation for working trials and exhibitions, and the popular dog sport agility attracts many enthusiasts. The sessions are available both in groups and individually.

Since entering the year 2000, the MEOE Székesfehérvár Independent Organization has almost every year earned the right to organize dog shows; in 2008, 2010, and 2016 it hosted CAC shows, while in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2015 it organized 2 x CACIB international shows. In 2013 and 2014 it doubled up, as after the 2 x CACIB shows held at the Székesfehérvár Bregyóközi Camping area, a month later the Organization also organized and managed the Velence Lake CAC national dog show. This year, the Organization has again received the opportunity to host the 2 x CAC national dog show. We wish them good work, many entered and exhibited dogs, a huge number of visitors, wonderful weather, and a successful show!

Introducing the dog show city, Székesfehérvár

The venue of the 2 x CAC national dog show is Agárd, which is the oldest and perhaps best-known holiday resort by Lake Velence, a garden city-style recreational and leisure center. Agárd is a district of the city of Gárdony, home to the famous Pop Strand, the Gárdonyi Géza Memorial House, and the Gárdonyi Log Castle.

The first written record of Agárd dates back to 1193, when Béla III granted part of it to the convent of the crusader knights of Székesfehérvár (monastery settlement). Courtiers lived in the royal part, which Béla IV donated to the collegiate chapter of Csút in 1264. Over the following centuries, it had many owners, including the Nádasdy family from the early 1850s until 1930. The holiday area began to develop with the parceling out by the Nádasdys, with a pre-planned, regular street network. At a county meeting held in 1930, they decided on the development of bathing life along the entire southern shore of the lake. Agárd was deemed more suitable for building the villa estate, while Gárdony was considered more appropriate for shops and workshops. Thanks to this, Agárd experienced rapid development in the 1930s. 1500 parceled-out holiday plots were sold, which were named the Nádasdy Bath and Holiday Estate. From the 1930s until the end of World War II, more than 700 holiday homes were built in Agárd, but after the war, its growth stalled and only picked up again from the 1960s. By the 1970s, Agárd had become one of Hungary’s best-known tourist destinations.

Agárd’s main attraction – besides the beaches – is the medicinal thermal water. At the southern border of Agárd, in Bika Valley, 50°C thermal water was discovered, and a thermal bath was built in 1984, which was developed into a medical center in 2004.

Near the Bath in Agárd stands the famous Agárdi Pálinka Distillery, where spirits are distilled from the region’s flavorful fruits. The cellars of the Velence Lake Wine Route in Agárd offer characteristic wines to visitors.

The Agárdi Pop Strand, known for its pop music events for over 30 years, enriches the program offer with its colorful concert lineup; it is one of the best-known summer meeting places for domestic pop and rock bands. It features the region’s longest-standing and human-scale open-air stage, a beautiful, waterfront, natural environment with a lawn carpet and a 2.2-meter high giant stage from which everyone can see everything! The Agárd experiences are further enhanced by the Dance Beach's retro parties with free entrance. Nowadays, the Agárdi Pop Strand welcomes its youthful lifestyle visitors not only in summer but also on winter weekends. The Agárdi Pop Strand Ice Rink is currently Hungary’s largest ice rink suitable for sliding and skating.

The famous native of the town is Géza Gárdonyi. He took his surname in honor of his birthplace, where he spent his childhood. The building that has housed the memorial house since 1988 is also Géza Gárdonyi’s birthplace. In the interconnected rooms of the house, visitors can get acquainted with documents, photographs, and memorabilia of the writer’s life. The exhibition presents the main milestones of Géza Gárdonyi’s life and the outstanding values of his literary work. In the display cases, along with his diary and the most beautiful editions of his works, some original personal items can also be viewed. Visitors can learn about his creative method, his writing career, and get a glimpse into his special secret writing. The building also features a kitchen furnished with period tools and furniture. The Géza Gárdonyi Birthplace and the descriptions placed on the walls bring Gárdonyi’s life and work closer.

Next to the Géza Gárdonyi Memorial House is the Velence Lake Gallery. The new art center functions as a cultural institution that preserves and creates values, serving as a creative and exhibition space.

The Gárdony Log Castle, a miniature version of the Eger Castle, was built next to Géza Gárdonyi’s birthplace. The facility, modeled after Eger Castle, welcomes adventure-seeking guests with open doors and colorful programs. The Log Castle can contribute to maintaining the memory of heroic resistance, similarly to Géza Gárdonyi’s novel, The Stars of Eger.

Strolling around the castle, visitors come closer to that era and the old people; the events of the novel become more vivid after the adventures in the log castle. The castle captain of Gárdony guides visitors through the castle and the dungeon system, and of course, visitors can also get a glimpse into the life of the castle-protecting knights!

The natural values of the settlement are aptly represented by the István Chernel Birdwatching Station, built between 1957-59 by Jenő Radetzky. Its purpose is teaching young people, entertaining visitors, and raising awareness of nature conservation. Besides researchers, it welcomes children and other interested visitors especially during summer holidays.

The settlement’s biggest event is the Velence Lake Fish, Game, Wine and Pálinka Festival held on the first weekend of May, which attracts thousands of guests to its uniquely enjoyable programs.

Lake Velence offers numerous excellent opportunities for water sports, inviting water sports enthusiasts with possibilities for water skiing and surfing, and there are also opportunities for kayaking and canoeing in the area, besides which it provides great possibilities for anglers to indulge in their beloved sport.

There is also the possibility of boat trips from the beginning of spring until late autumn, departing from Agárd, touching uniquely named clearings and reed beds.

Come and visit too! The organizers warmly welcome you!

The exhibition location is the Agárd free beach area, where the MEOE Székesfehérvár Independent Organization warmly welcomes all interested parties, guests, and exhibitors with their dogs on June 9th and 10th with two high-quality CAC dog shows!
