The MEOE Pécsi Önálló Jogú Egyesülete is organizing a 2 x CACIB international dog show in one of Europe’s cultural capitals, Pécs, on March 17 and 18, 2018. The international dog shows will be hosted at the Expo Center Pécs Multifunctional Exhibition and Event Center.
The Association organizing the show, the MEOE Pécsi Önálló Jogú Egyesülete
The Association was established in 1947 and operated as a MEOE member association until 2012, after which it became an Independent Association. During the first two decades after its founding, the leadership focused on organizing dog-related activities, and in the following decades, professional and financial growth was also achieved. The flourishing of dog life also brought an active club life into the Association, which continues to operate prominently to this day.
The Association manages a well-functioning dog school, where dogs and their owners are welcomed for discipline, obedience, and protection training sessions. The sessions are held under the supervision of certified master trainers, with a key focus on the good relationship and harmony between owner and dog. The leadership of the MEOE Pécsi Önálló Jogú Egyesület and the master dog trainers warmly welcome dogs and owners who wish to learn to attend various courses at the dog school.
The Pécsi Önálló Jogú Egyesület has a long tradition in organizing dog shows, having organized shows since the 1970s, including international shows for 19 years, held biennially.

Introducing the City of Dog Shows, Pécs
The city of the 2 x CACIB international dog show is Pécs, about which our poet Sándor Weöres writes: “Pécs is the southern city of the country/sometimes it is warm here even in winter/at the slopes of Jakabhegy and Tettye/snowdrops bloom in January.”
This Mediterranean atmosphere city has a history of about 2000 years. In Pécs, the values of the Roman era, the Middle Ages, the Turkish occupation, the Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Christian and Muslim buildings, residential houses, churches, prayer houses, mosques can be found side by side.
The heritage of the past goes back as far as the Neolithic period. The area always offered good living conditions for the ethnic groups who settled here. This is evidenced by the uncovered archaeological finds. The archaeological research of the city and cemetery of Sopianae (Roman Pécs) has been ongoing for several hundred years. Based on the findings, the layout of the city and the cemetery area located north of it, on the slopes of the Mecsek mountains, has been outlined.
The community of the city of Sopianae built a significant number of tomb structures (chapels, burial chambers, constructed tombs) in the 4th century. The monuments are unique architectural and artistic works, which have been part of the UNESCO World Heritage since 2000.
After the Migration Period, around 1009, Saint Stephen founded a bishopric in Pécs. Thanks to the economic and cultural greatness of the settlement, in 1367, during the reign of King Louis I, Pope Urban signed the bull founding the university – thus the city of Pécs became the seat of the first university in Hungary.
During the Turkish rule, it truly transformed into an oriental city; numerous mosques and baths were built over more than 140 years, reflected in the following quote by Mihály Babits: “Far away stretches the plain, where the cavalry calls the line/far away important four towers, minaret and arch/far away smoking Mecsek’s green top renews/at least offering the eyes fresh garlands.”
The city of Pécs is attractive to visitors and tourists because of its historical and cultural values and distinctive intellectual life. The city’s best-known architectural and cultural heritage is the Early Christian Burial Chambers of Pécs.
Among the religious monuments, the Synagogue holds a worthy place. A trip to the Porcelain Manufactory offers a unique experience, where the legendary Zsolnay legacy can be admired up close. The exhibition halls of the Zsolnay Ceramic Collection trace the development of architectural ceramics.
The city is famous throughout Europe for its rich artistic life, festivals, and artists. In Pécs, a multitude of cultural programs await guests who want to have fun all year round. The Pécs Spring Festival, Rockmaraton, Heritage Festival, Pécs Dance Marathon, and Pécs Open-Air Plays are annual recurring festivals that attract many visitors. In 2005, among numerous European Union cities, the city of Pécs was chosen (alongside Istanbul and Essen) as the European Capital of Culture for 2010.
Among Pécs’s natural attractions, the Pécs Zoo and Aquarium-Terrarium stands out, located on the picturesque slopes of the Mecsek mountains.
In the classically styled zoo, about 400 individuals of nearly 100 animal species from five continents live. In nearly 30 terrariums and aquariums of Pécs’s medieval cellar labyrinth, visitors can admire over 100 animal species and between 500-600 individuals.
