The Eastern Hungarian Dog Breeders Association has been granted the opportunity by the MEOE Federation to organize two different dog shows during the summer season. On July 22, 2017, we can participate in a CAC National and a Nighttime CACIB International dog show in Debrecen. The start time of the CAC dog show is 10:00 AM, while the Nighttime CACIB starts at 6:00 PM. The Dog Breeders have traditionally chosen the Kossuth Barracks Sports Field as the venue for the dog shows.
The Eastern Hungarian Dog Breeders Association was founded in the 1960s, originally under the name MEOE Debrecen Organization. In 1967, the hunting, herding, guard-protection, and work departments were established, and within the Association, training for these as well as guide dogs began. In 1990, the Association became an Independent Legal Entity, and today it is recognized as the largest Association by membership. In addition to organizing the two major shows (2 x CACIB and the night CACIB), the Association also holds two to three work tests and breeding exams annually, and continuous training takes place in the guard-protection, hunting, and agility departments.
The nighttime dog show organized by the Association every summer has a great tradition. The Association held the first show of this kind 18 years ago, in 1998, then under the name Nighttime Regional Dog Show. This nighttime dog show featured as a Regional show for four years in the Dog Breeders’ program. Over the next more than 10 years, the show was elevated to CAC status, and from 2014 it has been recognized by exhibitors and visitors as a Nighttime CACIB international dog show. This year, the event is complemented by a daytime CAC dog show, so exhibitors can participate with their dogs in two shows in one day.
A large number of exhibitors and guests attend the nighttime show every year, as its warm, friendly atmosphere enchants people. Contributing to this is the friendly and kind atmosphere experienced from the Association. It has been a recurring tradition for years that every exhibitor receives a bottle of special wine, and as a kind gesture from Mr. Sándor Szabó, the ladies receive a single red rose as a gift, personally handed to them by the President at the show.
The judging, which starts before sunset, spills into the night, whose mysterious lights enchant both exhibitors and visitors present. The Best In Show can be admired already in the mystical glow of the lamps, providing a mesmerizing spectacle in the dark of night. The association members who assist with the practical organization of the show are praised every year for their work in successfully holding the show!

The venue of the national CAC + the night CACIB international dog show is Debrecen, which is Hungary’s second largest and most populous city, as well as the cultural, economic, tourism and transportation center of Eastern Hungary. Today it is considered one of the most dynamically developing cities in our country.
Debrecen city is often referred to as Calvinist Rome or a civic city, which gained the status of market town in the 1300s, then royal city rank in the 1600s, and has been the country's capital twice. Its history has been intertwined with the Reformation for centuries, as reflected by numerous historical relics, including Kossuth Square, the Memorial Park, and the Great Forest Sculpture Park.
Among its sights, the city’s symbol stands out, the 19th-century classicist style Great Reformed Church, which is the largest Reformed church in the country and where Kossuth Lajos’s armchair is preserved as a relic. The building is located in the heart of the city, at Kossuth Square, behind which is the Reformed College, operating since the 1500s, whose prestige was established by its famous teachers and students. The College’s great library, with a collection of half a million volumes – including rare books – is registered as the largest collection of the Reformed Church in Hungary.
Next to the College is the building of the Déri Museum, built in neobaroque style. Its most famous part, the Munkácsy Hall, displays two works of Munkácsy Mihály’s world-famous Christ Trilogy.
Another landmark of the city center is the prestigious Aranybika Hotel, the country’s oldest still operating hotel, the Main Square, in the middle of which the city’s coat of arms made of glass mosaic can be found embedded in decorative paving, as well as the classical style Town Hall building, which is among the most beautiful.
From the city’s rich cultural offerings, the colorful and wonderful Flower Carnival on August 20 stands out, as well as the Jazz Days, the Poetry Festival and the Summer University events.
The city’s most popular tourist event is the unique Flower Carnival in Europe. Hundreds of thousands come to the city to see the spectacle associated with the coronation of the state founder Saint Stephen and the new bread festival. The main event of the week-long series of events, the Flower Carnival gets more spectacular each year, with participants presenting beautiful flower compositions whose magnificent fragrance is not negligible either. In addition, high-quality entertaining programs, concerts, dance performances, children’s programs, and as the crowning glory of the day, a fireworks show await families and guests attending the Flower Carnival.
The Zoo, which has been welcoming visitors since 1958, can be a real relaxation for families. Over nearly 60 years, the area of the Zoo has continuously grown, and today it can be said that a park meeting EU standards has been created, where families and guests visiting can see about 1,500 specimens of 165 species from 5 continents.
The conditions here provide significantly greater well-being and better comfort for the species living here than before. Since 1994, the area along with its 341 plant species found here has been under nature conservation protection.
Among the natural sights of Debrecen, the Great Forest stands out, which, starting from the year 1939, became Hungary's first nature reserve, extended with a zoo, amusement park, and botanical garden, whose original plant life is identical to that of the Great Forest. In the arboretum, among about 8,000 plant species, you can also find many tropical rarities, and the European-renowned cactus collection, representing 2,000 species and 10,000 plants, is also located here.
The venue of the dog shows, the Kossuth Barracks sports field, welcomes every visitor, guest, and exhibitor with their dogs with great affection and two lively dog shows by the Eastern Hungarian Dog Breeders Association.
