CAC National Dog Show – Salgótarján – March 25, 2018

The right to organize the first all-breed CAC national dog show of 2018 was awarded to the Ebtenyésztők Nógrád Megyei Association by the MEOE Federation. The national CAC dog show will be held in Salgótarján on March 25, 2018.

The 2018 year's first all-breed CAC national dog show organizing rights were won by the Ebtenyésztők Nógrád Megyei Egyesülete from the MEOE Federation. The national CAC dog show will be held on March 25, 2018, in Salgótarján, traditionally at the Tó-strand area.

The Association organizing the show, the Ebtenyésztők Nógrád Megyei Egyesülete

An active dog community operates in Salgótarján. The Ebtenyésztők Nógrád Megyei Egyesülete, together with the well-functioning dog school, does a lot to improve the area's animal husbandry culture. The dog show is a very good opportunity for exhibitors devoted to this wonderful dog sport, driven by a love of dogs, to meet and share their experiences with each other.

The Ebtenyésztő Association held its first dog show in the early 1990s. After this show, there was a long break before the next one could be held. At the 2008 Regional Character dog show, dogs competed by breed for the titles Salgótarján Szépe and Salgótarján Bajnoka in the rings. The Organization had a successful dog show behind it. In this hope, they trusted that soon they would also receive the right to organize a CAC dog show. This time came in 2010, so in the most beautiful spring month, May, a high-quality CAC show was held at Tó-strand with many beautifully led dogs. After the successful 2010 show, the Organization was also able to hold dog shows in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017.

Introducing the city of the dog show, Salgótarján

The city of the CAC dog show is Salgótarján, which is the largest city in Nógrád county, and the second smallest county seat in Hungary. The city lies in a narrow valley at the meeting point of the Karancs, Medves, and Cserhát mountain ranges.

The name Salgótarján dates back to the time of the Hungarian conquest, but its significant history goes back only 150 years. The modern history of Salgótarján began in the mid-20th century with the discovery of brown coal, when the settlement rose from being a minor serf village to prominence.

Brown coal mining started around 1850 near the future city at the Inászó plains, so Salgótarján naturally became the center of coal mining and the industry based on it. The city became the county seat in 1950, which marked the beginning of city development. The most significant phase of city building, which continues to this day, began in the early 1960s with the reconstruction of the outdated city center. The economic boom also belongs to this era, which lasted until the regime change. Since the second half of the 2000s, a city beautification program has started aiming at creating a more beautiful, better, and livable city over the next 20 years.

Among the sights of Salgótarján, we must mention the churches, of which there are plenty in the city, numbering seven in total: four Roman Catholic, one Greek Catholic, one Reformed, and one Evangelical. In the northern part of the city, we can find the tourist attractions, in the heart of the city the Museums and museum buildings, while the southern part of the city is still dominated by industrial plants.

The most famous and popular tourist attraction of Salgótarján is the ruin of Salgó Castle, which rises above the city on a 625-meter-high rock peak north of the city, above the settlement of Salgóbánya.

We can gain information about its past based on the finds and historical documents that have come to light. Its early core, the thick old tower, was built on the hilltop by the Kacsics landlord family at the end of the 13th century. In the autumn of 1554, the Turkish conquerors easily captured the castle, which was recaptured by the royal army after 40 years with a strong siege. The conquerors blew up its walls, the preservation of which continues to this day. It is a very popular excursion spot for tourists.

Among the natural sights of the city, we must highlight the Wildlife Park, which extends over 19 hectares in Somoskő. In the fenced forest areas, a total of twenty-one large game animals native to Nógrád, including fallow deer, roe deer, wild boars, and mouflons, have been provided a home in their natural environment. Visitors can observe the animals from paths and seven lookout towers, which is a real experience for every nature and animal lover.

Come and visit, the Association warmly welcomes you too!

The exact location of the CAC dog show is the Tó-strand area, where on March 25th the Nógrád County Association of Dog Breeders cordially welcomes all interested parties, guests, and exhibitors with their dogs to a high-quality CAC dog show!
