The city of the guardian-protector CAC dog show is Jászberény, which lies in the heart of the Great Plain on both sides of the Zagyva River. Jászberény, known as the “capital of Jászság,” is the second most populous city in the county.
Archaeological finds indicate that the area was inhabited already in prehistoric times; Celts and later Avars settled in this region. The settlement was specifically established during the reign of the Árpád dynasty, but was completely destroyed by the Tatar invasion.
The Jászs inhabited this area in the 13th century. From that time on, Jászberény became the spiritual, economic, and religious center of Jászság. During the Turkish era, the city belonged to the Sultan’s private treasury, and a palisade fortress was built for its defense; this fortress unfortunately fell victim to fire and was never rebuilt. The city also took part in the 1848-49 War of Independence; the Lehel Hussar Regiment was formed in Jászberény from volunteers recruited from the Jászság region. After the 1950s, the city began to develop steadily with the establishment of the first large industrial plants, which provided more job opportunities for the population.
Among the sights of Jászberény, the first to mention is the Jász Museum, operating since 1931, which presents written and material relics of the Jászság past within its permanent exhibitions. The most valuable piece of the collection displayed in the historic building is the richly carved, ivory horn, the Horn of Lehel, which according to legend was owned by Lehel, a hero of the Hungarian warriors who raided Germany at the end of the 10th century. The Hamza Museum and the Jász Gallery represent the painterly works of Hamza D. Ákos, painter and film director, and the museum also preserves Hamza D. Ákos’s library of 600 volumes.
Other historical sights in the city include the Gothic-origin and Baroque-style Church of Our Lady of the Hungarians, the Franciscan Church built in the 15th century, and the Roman Catholic Church of the Ascension of Jesus.
Jászberény has a lively cultural life thanks to its annual recurring events, such as the International Dance House and Music Camp, the Csángó Festival, the National Honey Fair, and the Jászberényi Summer. The city is home to the internationally renowned Jászság Folk Dance Ensemble, the Lehel Ballroom Dance Club, the Palotásy János Mixed Choir, and the Székely Mihály Choir as well.
For families, the 4.5-hectare Zoo and Botanical Garden, operating since 1979, can provide real entertainment; it is one of the smallest zoos in Hungary. The zoo showed a nearly constant picture for almost two decades, but from the mid-1990s great changes began, with narrow closed cages replaced by spacious enclosures and further nature-friendly innovations introduced.
The zoo’s goal is to keep and present the animals under the best possible conditions, so the enclosures are spacious and enriched with environmental elements mimicking natural habitats. Like other Hungarian zoos, their main tasks are education and nature conservation awareness-raising.
At the zoo, guests are welcomed every day with zoopedagogical feeding shows. During the programs started in 2001, the animals receive their daily food, for which they often have to work, and visitors can hear a lot of information about the animals.
In 2003, the zoo began expanding towards the arboretum, where visitors are literally taken into the forest. Within the 2-hectare arboretum, there are three nature trails, and by walking these, visitors can learn important things, for example, about bird and forest protection. The Bird Protection Nature Trail presents more than 90 animal species with colorful pictures on 41 stations and 50 informational boards, as well as 66 bird protection tools and methods. The aim of establishing the nature trail was to involve the arboretum next to the Jászberény zoo in the visitors' attention and thereby in environmental education.
Everyone interested, guests, and exhibitors with their dogs are warmly welcomed to the special spring season exhibition in Jászberény by MEJÁSZ!

Dogs are the animals domesticated by humans the longest. Thanks to their long relationship with humans, they are uniquely sensitive to human behavior.
