The city of the dog show is Herend, which lies 14 km from Veszprém, at the meeting point of the North and South Bakony, on the banks of the Séd creek, in a basin surrounded by hills.
According to the earliest records, the area was inhabited in smaller settlements already from the early 1300s, but its population growth is dated to the 1700s, as historical finds discovered here confirm. At that time, its inhabitants lived from agriculture, viticulture, and logging.
In the 1820s, the ceramics factory was established in Herend, organized by Vince Stingl, whose boom occurred in the 20th century. From the mid-1900s, production increased significantly in the porcelain factory after the war, so the settlement started to develop considerably due to its world-famous hand-painted porcelains, and by the end of this century, Herend porcelain became known almost worldwide.
The settlement also known as the "porcelain city" has by now grown into Europe's largest porcelain manufactory. The fabulous hand-painted Herend porcelain is a Hungarikum, part of Hungarian heritage. The Herend Porcelain Art Museum hosts more than 100,000 visitors annually.
In the Porcelanium belonging to the collection, visitors can look behind the scenes and get to know the workshop secrets of porcelain making. The fabulous porcelains were originally commissioned for aristocratic mansions, castles, and manors. Through an annual traveling exhibition, enthusiasts can enjoy the beauty of porcelain in its original environment in renovated domestic aristocratic mansions.
In the surrounding area of the city, we can rest and hike: by climbing Hajag, we can get to know the local animal and plant life, breathe in the fresh air, and explore the traces of recent events.
The national dog show in Herend is held in the wooded Park promenade area, where the Association of Dog Breeders of Veszprém County warmly welcomes all interested parties, guests, and exhibitors with their dogs to a high-level CAC dog show!
