Dog Portal, a dynamically developing website that offers useful information to its readers on countless interesting and exciting dog-related topics.
The Portal has spiced up the arrival of the new year with many interesting articles. In January, an article about the FCI, the International Cynological Federation was published, as well as an opening season 4 x CACIB FeHoVa Winter Dog Show recommendation for those preparing for dog shows.
Also in the blog section, a series on Sigmund Freud, the renowned Austrian psychoanalyst's last 15 dog-related years, was published in January. From this, we get to know the relationship of the elderly Freud with dogs, and we also learn that Freud was a pioneer in introducing animal-assisted therapy in psychoanalysis. From the reports of his daughter and acquaintances, it becomes clear what the “real” dog-loving Freud was like, offering a completely different perspective on him than previously known.
Dog Portal continuously presents weekly previews of CAC and CACIB dog shows organized in Hungary by MEOESZ and its various member associations and organizations. These previews are accessible with a single click, as well as from our 2014 MEOESZ Exhibition Calendar.
Among the foreign dog shows held in 2014, the two most important and largest, the World Dog Show in Helsinki in August and the Euro Dog Show in Brno in October, can also be viewed on the Portal along with all important related information.
Continuing with foreign shows, the 2015 World Dog Show to be held in Italy and the Euro Dog Show to be held in Norway are also available to read on the portal's foreign dog shows page.
Within the topic of dog shows, in February, a three-part preview and presentation of the Westminster Dog Show, the largest and most successful dog show in America for decades, was uploaded. Related to this, in the second part of the series, we get an insight into the history of the Westminster Kennel Club, and in the third part, we get acquainted with the mission and charitable activities of the Westminster Kennel Club.
One of February's colorful articles introduced snow-loving dog breeds with a brief text and illustrations of the breeds with special paintings.
February is also linked to the appearance on the Portal of veterinarians recommended by dog breeders. Many hobby dog owners and novice breeders often do not know which veterinarians or specialists to turn to with their pets when they become ill. Based on this fact, we launched an initiative under the above title to display veterinarians and specialists recommended by breeders on our pages, thereby ensuring that all animal and dog lovers can take their pets to veterinarians recommended based on breeders' positive experiences.
In February, the blog category was expanded with the colorful and interesting video blog and photo blog pages.
The editors consider it important to emphasize the necessity and importance of responsible pet love and responsible pet keeping, and to raise awareness of this, a 9-part series on Responsible Pet Keeping was published in February, with the first 3 parts already available on Dog Portal, and the remaining parts being uploaded continuously.
The first part is ironically titled Hungarian Dog Market, which presents and analyzes the current situation of puppy/dog sales in Hungary, drawing attention to the irregularities experienced on online advertising sites.
In the second part, you can read how to choose a puppy responsibly and according to our lifestyle, living environment, and family situation, as well as receive advice about buying puppies, including how, in what way, and from whom it is allowed and advisable to buy a puppy.
From the third chapter, you can find out what the difference is between a breeder and a puppy mill, with essential and important points listed and analyzed.
In March, the world’s largest dog show, the English Crufts Dog Show, was also covered. In the first part of the three-part colorful series, you can read the Crufts Dog Show exhibition guide, supplemented with numerous pictures and videos. The next part covers the history of the Crufts Dog Show in pictorial and textual form with a timeline, while the last part of the series introduces us to the history of the continent’s largest dog organization, the English Kennel Club, complete with many photographs and interesting information.
The month of March was also linked to a completely new, interesting, and colorful series, which was published on the Portal illustrated with archival photos and drawings. The series titled Dog Evolution presents the changes and development history of various breeds from the 1800s to the present day using archival photos and images. In addition to breed development history presentations enriched with archival images, the 101 Big Dog video series videos related to breeds can also be found as an extra curiosity. Furthermore, a brief breed description can be read about different breeds, which can be viewed on separate pages. In the Dog Evolution series, the Portal currently features viewable and readable pictorial development history presentations for the Tibetan Mastiff, the Chow-Chow, and the German Shepherd breeds.
At the end of March, our introductory article entitled “Dog Portal, the international meeting place of dog-loving internet users” was published, where our readers can get to know our portal, the idea behind its creation, our creed, and our goals.
The website has been continuously renewing and developing since its launch last autumn, welcoming readers who love dogs and dog-related curiosities with new developments and ideas every day.
Looking at the numbers, the site also shows dynamic growth, reaching nearly 10,000 unique monthly visitors and more than 20,000 page views by the end of April, which means that on average a visitor views more than 2 pages. The average time spent on the site is more than 2 minutes, and on some articles, the number of Facebook shares approaches two hundred, which also proves that visitors can read interesting and valuable articles.
