Dog Portal, the international meeting place for dog-loving internet users, is a dynamically developing website on the palette for dog enthusiasts, dog breeders, and hobby dog internet users alike.

We have reached the third part of our series summarizing the quarterly activities of the Dog Portal, in which we recall the events of the spring period, that is, the months of April, May, and June for our readers.

The long-awaited spring has finally arrived, bringing renewal to the life of the Dog Portal as well. The portal has received a new look. From April, our portal is characterized by a completely new visual style, a more beautiful and better design, combined with ease of use and easier overview of the content. Beyond the external renewal, we have also made forward-looking internal improvements, offering new ideas and opportunities to dog lovers, whether breeders or hobby dog keepers, in addition to many new, useful, and interesting topics.

With the end of March, the spring season has also begun in terms of dog shows. The Dog Portal continuously and week by week displays recommendations for CAC and CACIB dog shows organized in Hungary by MEOESZ and its various member Associations and Organizations in the domestic dog show category.

In this quarter, successfully completed and readable on our portal pages are the Makó CAC show, the Harkány Hungarian Breed CAC show, the Nyíregyháza CAC show, the Komárom 3 x CACIB international show series, the Pécs 2 x CACIB international shows, the Gyula CAC show, the 2-day Szombathely CACIB international show and the associated Evening CAC show, the Debrecen 2 x CACIB international shows, the Herend CAC show, the every year highly successful Debrecen Night CACIB show, and the Kecskemét 2 x CACIB international dog shows recommendations.

In each of the show recommendations, as an additional possibility, we can also read special and interesting information about the organizing Association, the city of the show, and the location; furthermore, as an appetizer, we can watch exhibition videos from previous years and browse photos taken at the given show.

The show recommendations are accessible with one click. also from our 2014 MEOESZ Show Calendar.

An interesting and colorful new series is starting in April within the topic of dog shows. Under the title „World of Shows”, we launched a photo series on our portal that guides readers into the diverse, special, and interesting world of foreign and Hungarian dog shows of great significance. Our exclusive photo series, enriched with exciting and interesting reports as well as many photos, provides insight into the world of shows, showing everything through the eyes of dog exhibitors and visitors.

Another special feature of the „World of Shows” series is that in every show report, we travel through different regions of Hungary before arriving at the show city, presenting these regions, the beautiful landscapes of our country, and the show city with photos during the journey, so that we can finally reach the actual venue of the show.

The first 10 episodes of our highly successful „World of Shows” series have already been completed and can be read on the Dog Portal pages. Within this series, our readers were given a first insight this year into a foreign dog show, the Eurasia held in Moscow, about which they could read a colorful and interesting report under the title “Eurasia” – Russia’s largest dog show.

We opened the series of domestic dog shows with the report of the Salgótarján CAC show titled „Dog Show in Palócföld”, followed by the report of the Békéscsaba CAC show under the title „Dog Show in the Castle Park”, then the Szilvásvárad CACIB show report „Dog Show in the Homeland of Lipizzans”, the Kiskunfélegyháza CAC show report titled „Dog Show at the Kunság Equestrian Center”, the Karcag CAC show report „Dog Show in the Homeland of the Kun People”, the Zalaegerszeg CAC show report „Dog Show on the Shore of Lake Gébárti”, the Székesfehérvár CACIB show report „Dog Show in the City of Kings”, the report on the Nyíregyháza CAC show titled „Dog Show in the Sóstó Museum Village”, and finally our report on the Komárom CACIB show titled „Dog Show at the Monostori Fort”.

Every single episode of this series is accessible with one click from our preview article titled „World of Shows – our portal’s new photo series”, as well as from the 2014 MEOESZ Show Calendar.

Also related to this quarter is the Dog Portal's new health protection series, in which we address diseases affecting most breeds with the involvement of expert veterinarians. In the complex and multifaceted health topics concerning our beloved dogs, veterinarians and veterinary specialists from the Nyíregyháza Teaching Animal Hospital assist us as invited experts to navigate. In the first part, they introduced themselves as the “Experts of our health protection series, veterinarians from the Nyíregyháza Animal Hospital.” In the subsequent parts, with the help of our veterinary expert, we took a close look at and analyzed the health problems of outstanding importance in the lives of our dogs and provided useful and advisable tips to help dog-loving families on these topics.

The first topic brought up were the tormentors of our pets' lives, the ticks, in our article titled “Health protection of our dogs – About ticks.”

This was followed by our article about the sudden onset and one of the most insidious diseases, titled “Health protection of our dogs – Gastric torsion.”

Then, connected to the health protection series, we drew our readers' attention to the dangers of summer, resulting in the creation of our article titled “Appeal – Let’s protect our dogs from the dangers of summer.”

Closely related to this was our next article, which, associated with heat stroke suddenly occurring during the scorching heat, can be read on the Dog Portal under the title “Health protection of our dogs – Heat stroke.”

Related to the health topic is the display of veterinarians recommended by dog breeders on our portal, since many hobby dog owners and novice breeders do not really know which veterinarians or specialists are worth visiting with their pets if they become ill. Based on this fact, we launched an initiative under the above title to present veterinarians and specialists recommended by breeders on our pages, thereby ensuring that every animal and dog-loving visitor can take their pets to veterinarians recommended based on breeders' positive experiences.

In February, more than 70 recommended veterinarians were added to our site, which expanded by another 20 veterinarians recommended by breeders in May.

The Dog Portal's further new development is also related to this veterinary page, namely the page of veterinarians recommended by breeders has been enriched with a new search function by location. Thus everyone can now easily find veterinarians within the specified district.

The editors of the site consider it important to emphasize the necessity and importance of responsible animal love and responsible animal keeping, and to raise awareness on this, a 9-part series on Responsible Animal Keeping was published in February, whose first 3 parts (Hungarian Dog Market, Breed selection and Puppy purchasing advice, Breeder vs. Puppy mill) were already published on our portal in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, this series was supplemented with additional parts; currently, Chapter IV of Responsible Animal Keeping, titled “Responsible animal love and careful upbringing,” is available on our portal, where we discuss some of the golden rules of responsible animal keeping.

The fifth chapter, looking at the international level and connected to dog trading, contains the call of the FCI, the international kynological federation, which appeared under the title “Let’s work together to stop puppy trading!.”

The Dog Portal has developed a special, new concept for the presentation of descriptions and characterizations of various dog breeds. In a completely unique way, the breed presentations and breed descriptions are published as written by recognized breeders of the different dog breeds.

In this quarter, the Description of the Pug breed was published on our portal in this format, thanks to Pethő Beatrix and Pethő Imre (Black Jade Pakony kennel), pug breeders.

Also, the Miniature Schnauzer breed description, which praises the writing skills of Kovács István, Miniature Schnauzer owner (and also owner and co-editor of the Dog Portal – the other editor).

In the previous quarter, we launched our colorful, illustrated series called “Dog Evolution,” which presents the changes and development history of various dog breeds from the 1800s to the present day, illustrated with archival photos and images. This quarter, three different dog breeds (Tibetan Mastiff, Chow-Chow, German Shepherd) were presented on our portal with some accompanying textual descriptions about their development history.

In April, within the “Dog Evolution” series, the Pug breed development history presentation was published, which shows the changes of this breed from the 1700s through the mid-1900s with over 60 interesting, colorful photos, drawings, and some textual information.

Finally, but not least, the article about the creation, launch, and first few months of operation of our portal, which was already published in March, has been revised and is now presented to our readers again in a completely new concept, broken down by sections and quarterly reports.

As the first step in this, the introductory article of our portal titled “Dog Portal, the international meeting place for dog-loving internet users” was completed, where readers can get to know our portal, the idea behind its creation, our creed, and our objectives.

The next report materials were written in the already mentioned quarterly breakdown. In our articles titled “Dog Portal – the first quarter” and “Dog Portal – the second quarter,” visitors could read quarterly summaries of the portal’s development from the very beginning.

Since its launch last autumn, the website has been continuously renewed and developed, with new improvements and ideas day by day, awaiting readers who are passionate about dogs and dog-related curiosities.

The editors (Kovács István and Ildikó Lázárné Vámosi) welcome dog-loving internet users, families, breeders, and hobby dog owners visiting the Dog Portal with many useful, interesting, and colorful articles also in the future.
